Position Overview

Purpose and Scope
This full-time position will serve as a Counselor for the LEARN grant over the course of five years.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:
Typical duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide ongoing support for students
  • Provide options for meeting with students one-on-one, in groups, or virtually to best meet student needs
  • Develop and offer workshops on skills including stress reduction and problem-solving
  • Provide services on campus and on Mescalero Tribal land
  • Provide training and oversight to peer mentors
  • Promote creativity and positivity among students, faculty, and staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Must be a licensed clinical therapist
  • Experience working with high school or college students, especially in regard to providing mental health services
  • Knowledge of or experience working with Native American and/or low-income students
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and disseminate surveys and compile collected data
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other employees and administrators

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.
