What is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)? The primary focus of the EMT is to provide basic medical care and transportation for emergency and non-emergency patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation, and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. An EMT performs interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance and is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. About the Program: The eligible candidate will be hired as an employee and compensated at a training wage while in attendance at Crafton Hills College through AMR-San Bernardino. The program is a rigorous ten-week training period which qualifies the employee to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians ("NREMT") - EMT Examination. There is no cost for the class and all books, tuition, fees and uniforms will be paid by AMR San Bernardino. Upon successful completion of the class, all tests and state certification, the employee will be transferred to an EMT position with an increase to the EMT compensation rate. Desired candidates must:
What happens after passing the course? After successful completion of the course, the employee will be eligible to take a written and skills test offered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians ("NREMT") - EMT Examination, register with the Inland Counties Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA), go through the DMV process for your Ambulance certificate, and will be required to work for AMR-San Bernardino for a period of at least one year. Upon receipt of the state EMT-B certification, employees will be assigned their full-time shift and complete new employee training. This document in no way constitutes a contract of employment.
