Job Overview

The Associate Clinical Manager is responsible for managing a unit/department by implementing and maintaining specific policies, procedures, and guidelines; leading team members in providing direct patient care by demonstrating expert clinical knowledge; ensuring compliance with quality and safety initiatives and practices; and partnering with a multidisciplinary team in meeting the clinical needs of patients and families. The Associate Clinical Manager also provides leadership and management to unit/department team members. Finally, the Associate Clinical Manager in periods when volumes are high and mandates, will serve as the charge therapist by preparing schedules and assigning team members to patients, overseeing the general flow of patient care and serving as a liaison to the resource therapists.

Children's Hospital Colorado Springs is a premier, full-service pediatric hospital serving Southern Colorado and neighboring states. We provide a wide range of subspecialties to meet the needs of our patients.

As part of our Respiratory Therapy team, you'll provide exceptional care in various pediatric settings, including:

  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): Care for critically ill newborns, including premature babies and surgical patients. Participate in hands-on care with NICU staff and assist with the transport of neonatal patients.
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU): Provide care for children with complex medical conditions, including multi-organ failure, trauma, pulmonary conditions, and neurosurgical cases. Strong problem-solving and clinical skills are essential.
  • Pediatric Emergency Department: Support the care and education of children with asthma, bronchiolitis, and other respiratory conditions in this trauma destination for the region.
  • Pediatric Med/Surg: Assist in long-term patient care and recovery for children with chronic and acute conditions.

You'll also collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and more to provide the best possible care. Additionally, you'll have the chance to assist with bronchoscopies in the operating room.

Job Status: 40 hours/week
Shift: This position will support night shift. Weekends/ holidays as needed for patient and departmental needs.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience: Three (3) years' experience in a Pediatric/Neonatal Critical Care setting.
  • Equivalency: Two (2) years' experience in a pediatric/neonatal critical care setting with two (2) years respiratory care supervision.
  • Certification(s):
    • Registered Respiratory Therapist by National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC), required.
    • Neonatal-Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialist certification (RRT-NPS) by the (NBRC), required within one (1) year of hire.
    • BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least six (6) months left before expiration is required upon hire.
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required.
  • Licensure(s): Colorado Respiratory Therapist License
  • Professional Membership(s): Active membership in the American Association of Respiratory Care.

  • Leads unit/department team members in providing direct patient care by demonstrating expert clinical knowledge and promoting the application of the Evidence-Based, Professional Practice Model and Professional Standards in daily work.
  • Interprets and explains regulatory standards and hospital policies, procedures, and rules to team members and ensures compliance with applicable quality and safety initiatives and practices.
  • Ensures staffing resources are utilized appropriately and shifts resources to meet both patient and unit needs.
  • Exercises sensitivity to current and emerging operational needs of the department through flexibility with working hours and attention to desired outcomes.
  • Partners with a multidisciplinary team in meeting the clinical needs of patients and families.
  • Round with patients, families and team members to promote a quality patient family.
  • Resolves operational and patient/family issues, making decisions that are inclusive of multiple perspectives and solves underlying problems.
  • Assists team members in achieving unit outcomes, performance and professional development standards; identifies opportunities for continual improvement.
  • Champions clinical practice and professional growth by working with department educator to meet the educational needs of the unit/department and by monitoring and evaluating team member competencies. Develops, coaches, and evaluates team members.
  • Mentors team members in creating/evaluating projects focused on improving clinical practice in line with unit initiatives and organizational goals.
  • Provides feedback to Clinical Manger/Director on decisions involving hiring, terminations, promotions, and disciplinary actions as required.
  • Sensitive to expenditures for unit/department and participates in the development of budget recommendations.
  • Position requires regular and predictable attendance. Employee is held accountable for all duties of this job.
  • Collaborates with Director, clinical manager, and HR in the hiring, promotion, disciplinary and termination process.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $84,558.69 to $126,838.03
Hourly Salary Range: $40.65 to $60.98
