The Compliance Specialist works closely with key Fred Hutch stakeholders including Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Audit, Business Development, Human Resources, Office of the General Counsel, Clinical Research Support, Information Security and others across the enterprise and within Compliance to help ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and Fred Hutch policies. Supports the Monitoring and Assurance team in implementing and/or establishing, overseeing, and managing the compliance programs involving Fraud, Waste & Abuse, Compliance Programs Audit & Monitoring, and Third-Party Risk. These compliance program initiatives and responsibilities are a major element of the institution's enterprise compliance program and required under the federal and state compliance regulations and guidances. Coordinate effectively with various departments. Develop and prepare coordinated responses, corrective action, reporting, and ensure uniformity and continuity of policy and regulatory application and enforcement.



Responsibilities

    Contributes to tracking, trending, and reporting of compliance program audit findings, training and consults.
  • Responsible for compliance project management, i.e., ensuring special projects are organized and completed on defined time lines.
  • Contributes to annual risk assessment and audit planning, compliance program auditing, and monitoring new rules, regulatory changes, and enforcement actions across all compliance areas.
  • Identifies and recommends suggestions for improvement in the compliance risk assessment and audit processes.
  • Contributes to development of healthcare reimbursement and compliance related training and guidance, for clinicians and staff.
  • Assists with establishment and ongoing management of a program newsletter and other means of outreach.
  • In coordination with coding auditors for healthcare reimbursement, participates as needed in internal and external healthcare reimbursement audits.
  • Works with Director to support committee activities and reporting for the compliance teams; supports development of board meeting materials to various enterprise committees, including the Revenue Cycle Committee and the Audit & Compliance Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a healthcare compliance related field. Experience with electronic medical record systems, databases, and related automated systems. Experience managing projects
  • Familiarity with healthcare reimbursement and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse regulations.
  • Ability to independently prioritize and organize work efficiently with a demonstrated attention to detail.

PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Certified in Healthcare Compliance, PMP certification, or similar certifications.
  • Experience working research/clinical trials.
  • Experience working in a complex, matrix environment.
  • Proficiency in project management methods and tools.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to present findings and recommendations as required.
  • Sound decision making ability, considering all information, and utilizing a big picture approach.
  • Ability to gather information from multiple sources to gain a thorough understanding of problems.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task in an unpredictable environment.
  • Ability to innovate, develop or adopt best practices and manage change.
  • Ability to think strategically about organizational risks and continuously document, improve, and streamline processes to advance the applicable compliance programs and initiatives assigned.
  • Highest degree of credibility, integrity, and discretion.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $75,151.00 to $112,673.00 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
