About the Role

Symetra is looking to add a new Sr. Financial Reporting Analyst, centering on projects with a focus on insurance finance including investments, GAAP and Statutory reporting, operations, tax and other departments. The role is currently positioned in Symetra's Investment Accounting and Reporting department and would also be working on management reporting for the team. This is a newly created role to assist Symetra's finance teams with projects, regulatory, reporting and tax changes. In this role you will work with many teams within Finance, providing project management, retrospectives and agile trainings and services.

What you'll do in this role



  • Lead ad hoc projects, including identifying solutions and operational improvements, accounting transactions, innovation etc. Helps develop, lead, and complete a project plan and communicates progress
  • Ensures agile practices and events are followed, assists the team in self-organization, fosters impediment resolution, holds team accountable for their committed deliverables, helps team with estimation, provides dashboards and metrics to understand how the team is performing (cumulative flow diagrams, velocity etc.), builds a safe trusting team environment, and communicates timelines and dependencies
  • Supports Product Owners on maintaining a refined product backlog, facilitates cross-team communication and planning, supports release planning activities, proactively manages risks.
  • Prepare and review quarterly reporting and analysis, work with GAAP and Statutory reporting teams for appropriate disclosure presentation and language
  • Leads (a part) of the accounting close cycle. Prepares and reviews journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and/or reporting files, financial analytics, management reports and other deliverables
  • Produce a high-quality product with review comments for improvement. Resolve issues with minimal guidance and Identify areas for improvement

Compensation

Salary Range: $75,300 - $125,600 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.

Who You Are:



  • High School Diploma, required
  • BA/BS in Accounting or related field required, and MBA, CPA, PMP, CSM preferred
  • Relevant work experience in public accounting, insurance, or finance required
  • Highly motivated with a strong desire to exceed expectations, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and able to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-faced environment
  • Strong operational improvement skills and the ability to "think creatively", as well as the desire to work with a team where growth and improvement are encouraged and supported
  • Proven ability to interact effectively and communicate complex investment accounting guidelines and policies in an understandable manner to various level's of staff, and external vendors
  • Goal-oriented with a track record of task and project completion, and the ability to work a flexible schedule, as the need arises (quarter and year-ends, ad hoc projects)
  • Strong Excel skills and 2+ years' experience working with Agile methodology teams and knowledge of frameworks like Scrum and Kanban.
