Position Description

The Department of Community, Family, and Addiction Sciences in the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS) at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position in the Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies (ADRS) program, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2025. We welcome all applicants with a strong research program in any area of addiction. Candidates with strong research programs in the various areas of addiction that also complement the current work of ADRS faculty will be considered. The ADRS faculty are particularly interested in candidates whose research programs focus on recovery from addiction (e.g., recovery capital, collegiate recovery, 12-step programming) and/or health disparities among underserved populations.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate evidence of strong research productivity or a clear path to developing an impactful research program supported by extramural funding as well as possess the ability to mentor graduate student research. The successful applicant will be appointed at a rank commensurate with their experience and research productivity, limited to either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. An endowed professorship, which provides additional discretionary funds to support research and professional activities, is available should the successful applicant demonstrate a superior level of research productivity.

About the Department/School/Area

The mission of the Department of Community, Family, and Addiction Sciences (CFAS) is to prepare future professionals to enrich the lives of others utilizing a systemic perspective. To this end, the CFAS Department is home to programs specifically focused on empowering students to develop skills in counseling, addiction and recovery, licensed mental health practice, and applying a scientist-practitioner approach to producing meaningful scholarship. The CFAS Department is home to highly regarded programs, including the Counseling and Addiction Recovery Sciences (CARS) undergraduate degree program, master's and doctoral degree programs in Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy (CMFT), and a doctoral degree program in Addictive Disorders and Recovery Sciences (ADRS). Major/Essential Functions

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

Faculty Qualifications


  1. Earned doctorate in a field related to mental health (e.g., psychology, counseling, couple and family therapy), family sciences, human development, public health, social work, or a related discipline at time of appointment.
  2. Evidence of a research program in addiction, either emerging or established.
  3. Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to addiction.
  4. Ability to mentor graduate student research in addiction.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to facilitate community outreach and engagement, with a focus on translating the impact of addiction research to state and local communities.

Preferred Qualifications


  1. Experience with recovery-oriented research (e.g., peer-led interventions, recovery capital, collegiate recovery programs) and/or addressing health disparities in addiction research, especially among underserved populations.
  2. Demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative, interdisciplinary research in addiction studies or related fields, with potential to build strong research partnerships.
  3. Experience with grant writing and submission, with a record of securing extramural funding.
  4. Proven ability to mentor graduate students, supporting them in independent research projects and contributing to co-authored publications.
  5. Commitment to community engagement, with experience translating research into strategies that positively impact local or state communities, particularly in addressing health disparities or recovery initiatives.
