Position Title: Nursery Teacher

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $18 - $20

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:



  • High school diploma
  • 1-2 years of experience working in a nursery setting, educating children



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:



  • Must have a distinctive philosophy of education which is in agreement with the overall philosophy and goals of The Salvation Army.
  • Must be physically, mentally and occupationally capable of performing assigned tasks and meet the demands of the nursery environment.
  • Must be a sensitive and mature individual able to relate well to both children and adults; to radiate warmth and joy; have a sense of humor; relaxed and happy attitude.



GENERAL DUTIES:



  • Plan, supervise and implement the program for the Nursery class in accordance with the goals, objectives, policies, and philosophy of the Family Care Center.
  • Care for children 6 weeks to 2 years of age.



SPECIFIC DUTIES:



  • Treat each child with dignity and respect; being sensitive and responsive to the needs of the children at all times and be concerned for their safety and well-being.
  • Provide physical infant care: feeding and burping, changing diapers, bathing and emergency screening.
  • Responsible for the nursery as a learning environment. This includes arrangements, appearances, neatness, etc., and this shall include necessary housekeeping duties.
  • Provide a variety of experiences in which the children are encouraged to explore. Encourage self-help.
  • Provide emotional stimuli: consoling, verbal communication, etc.
  • Provide educational stimuli: eye to hand coordination, encourage verbalization, socialization skills, and monitor development.
  • Assist in maintenance of furnishings and equipment.
  • Do laundry twice a week or as needed.
  • Keep refrigerator clean.
  • Sterilize and wash cribs and toys daily.
  • Maintain a safe environment.
  • Empty trash daily.
  • Keep bulletin board up-to-date using monthly curriculum theme.
  • Attend FCC Staff Meeting once a month.
  • Plan curriculum one month in advance and give to FCC Director.
  • Submit a requisition for materials at the earliest possible time prior to the week that the material will be needed.
  • Be available for informal parent conferences.
  • Forward all maintenance requests to FCC Director for processing.
  • Work one shift on a Sunday, twice a month, occasional Saturdays, and evenings, when needed, and all "Welcoming Events" in September and Commissioning and Graduation Events in June.
  • Work all school holidays except Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day and Easter.
  • Complete all necessary Nursery Teacher training, including PTM and Pediatric First Aid/CPR Trainings.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Family Care Director.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.   • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to operate telephone.
  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes).
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
  • Ability to understand written information.
