Global Process Modeling Engineer-Manufacturing

As the Global Process Modeling Engineer-Manufacturing in PPG Operations, you will help shape our manufacturing organization's process modeling capabilities. Your leadership will inspire innovation, efficiency, and strategic agreement across our global portfolio, spanning Engineering and Manufacturing. You may lead a small team of engineers and be responsible for engineering and modeling projects to support 100+ Chemical Manufacturing facilities around the globe. You will report to the Global Engineering Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use expertise in process modeling, reaction kinetics, in-situ analytical tools, process scale-up and design, continuous improvement, and statistical analysis to support manufacturing design and optimization of operations.
  • Develop a comprehensive Global Process Model Strategy that aligns with PPG's overarching Operational Strategies.
  • Plan cost-effective process modeling. based including workforce needs, software requirements, and computing resources.
  • Establish and nurture process modeling teams and engineers at our Springdale, Pennsylvania and manufacturing locations.
  • Coach engineers, empowering them to become technical leaders and subject matter experts.
  • Understand partner expectations and function as a critical interface between R&D, manufacturing, and SBU technical service teams.
  • Lead discussions, prioritize projects, and ensure seamless execution from intake to implementation.
  • Empower global process engineers to use the QUICK mixing process simulators (TankSim and VisiMix) in their daily tasks. Aid when tasks become challenging for QUICK simulation or escalate them to formal modeling projects conducted by our team members.
  • Lead the global New Product Introduction (NPI) Process Technology portfolio within specific SBU categories, driving new manufacturing process development to achieve first run capability (FRC).
  • Enhance paint dispersion and mixing processes using physics-based models.
  • Evaluate new manufacturing technologies such as reactive extrusion for adoption to PPG.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time in the USA and occasionally internationally.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors required, advanced degree preferred, engineering or related fields, and 8+ years of industry experience.
  • Expertise and practical experience in CAD, CFD, FEA, Solidworks, ANSYS and Multiphysics modeling. Knowledge of Aspen Plus for industrial processes is important.
  • Deep understanding of polymer science and engineering. Familiarity with resin and resin reactors, and experience in coating manufacturing (e.g., dispersion and blending),
  • Experience with people management and the ability to define and track metrics that measure the success of projects.
