Job Description

Diagnose for defects in operation, disassemble, repair, replace parts and reassemble to operating condition all machines, machine tools and mechanical equipment.

Perform all layout, machining and mechanical operations incidental to tearing down, rebuilding and reconditioning machines and mechanical equipment, except certain operations described under specific classifications for Millwright; Repairer Elevator; Repairer Sewing Machine; Electrician, and other specialized mechanical repair work. May be assisted by helpers.

Scrape ways; reline spindles and shafts; scrape and fit bearings; repair and adjust clutches; repair valves, solenoids and cylinders; fit precision parts; cut and match gears; change feed and speed control gears; set automatic timing devices; align and balance work and be sure that the completed work is in a safe operating condition.

Machine Repairers who specialize in operating tool room and general purpose machine tools to rework worn parts and to make new or replacement parts may be classified as Machine Operator Tool, Die, and Maintenance.

May also be required to handle/manage hazardous waste from time to time.
