What You Will Do:

This position is responsible for preparing and completing the bi-weekly and monthly payrolls serving under the direction of the Payroll Manager.



Essential Responsibilities

    Solicits and enters the following information into spreadsheets and/or Banner: payroll deduction information, direct deposit and tax forms, payroll authorization forms (new hires, transfers, promotions, salary increases, title changes, supervisor changes, labor distribution changes, etc..), student worker and adjunct terminations and adjunct and overload contract adjustments.
  • Disseminates pay checks and handles mail, answers all employee inquires on the phone or via email, files/retrieves payroll records as necessary, processes garnishments and other payments from the deductions of employees; assists with special projects.
  • Solicits and enters bi-weekly and monthly time cards; enters employee leave balances; responds to inquiries.
  • Assists with thoroughly and accurately reviewing payroll registers for correct entries.
  • Assists with other accounting functions: reviewing check requests, etc.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • High Diploma or GED equivalent with some college courses in accounting or specialized/technical training required.
  • 1-3 years of experience handling payroll.
  • Proficient expertise in Microsoft Excel, Word and in working the 10-key calculator.
  • Banner software experience is preferred.'
  • Basic understanding of the various type of payroll taxes, including Federal and multi-state, and deductions.
  • Results Focus: Achieves results within established timelines. Understands and demonstrates that intentions, activities and results are not the same. Expects that obstacles will occur and refuses to use them as an excuse for not achieving results.
  • Time Management: Prioritizes tasks and manages time to ensure that deadlines are met. Plans his or her time and sticks to those plans. Prevents or manages interruptions until the highest priority tasks are accomplished.
  • Customer Focus: Personally demonstrates that external (or internal) customers are a high priority. Identifies customer needs and expectations and responds to them in a timely and effective manner. Anticipates and prevents delays or other things that can adversely affect the customer. Keeps customers informed about the status of pending actions and inquiries about customer satisfaction with products or services.
