Position Purpose
The Building Automation Control Tech A will have skills and knowledge in all aspects of the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electronic systems. Performs a variety of tasks involved with installing, analyzing and repairing all types of systems, including all electrical and electronic controls systems; pneumatic control instrumentation, including sensors and transmissions; and monitoring systems for process controls for utilities and building operations.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Six years of relevant experience of which two must have been served as an apprentice or equivalent position.
  • Technical school graduate or equivalent education and experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be qualified under the terms of the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.
  • Mechanical aptitude and computer skills, with knowledge of all aspects of Windows operation and Pascal program language.
  • Solid understanding of Honeywell and Johnson alarms and control systems.
  • Skill in maintenance and repair procedures including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, construction, installation and fabrication of electronic, electrical and mechanical control systems.
  • Ability to perform math computations as related to trade (preferably in algebra and trigonometry) and ability to read, interpret and modify blue prints and schematics.
  • Must possess computer skills related to troubleshooting and programming access control systems.
  • Must have the ability to follow complex written and oral assignments and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to work independently under minimal supervision, exercise sound judgment and have excellent problem solving skills.
  • Must successfully complete and remain certified and compliant in all safety safety or trades related course work as may be required by the College.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required.

  • Associate's degree preferred.

Key Accountabilities


Description
Responsibilities

  • Performs regular testing and maintenance of mechanical systems including assessment and troubleshooting of components and systems.
  • Plans working details and follows schematics, wiring diagrams, or blueprints on all equipment and systems as defined above. Determines work methods to accomplish assignments such as repairs, replacements or new installations.
  • Performs work according to manufacturer's specifications, FO&M guidelines, trade practices, blueprints, shop drawings and schematics.
  • Performs diagnostic tests on digital systems for campus Central Environmental Control (CEC) system and fabricates electronic parts and circuitry as necessary.
  • Maintains systems, components, fixtures and equipment in accordance with established work order maintenance schedules, calls or specific assignments.
  • Inspects control and safety systems to verify system compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Adjusts system controls to maintain proper conditions on campus. Modifies schedules to maintain designated conditions on campus on a day-to-day basis.
  • Tests performance of systems using tools and equipment such as monometer, psychometer, thermometer and digital multimeter to isolate problems and determine where adjustments are necessary.
  • Maintains records of system installations, repairs, calibrations, and tests, using databases, spreadsheets, word documents and drawings.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with constituents.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
