Overview
This position has a progression. PURPOSE STATEMENT: Working under immediate supervision as a crew member, performs routine/repetitive moderate to heavy manual labor work required for the utility system.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
As directed, performs miscellaneous tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, relocation, repair, replacement and or termination of the gas transmission, supply, and/or distribution system using all hand tools and equipment required.
- Drives truck when qualified and assists in maintaining vehicle and associated equipment.
- Maintains the work area and assigned equipment, including PPEs, in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
- Works in a safe and responsible manner. Complies with all safety rules, regulations and practices in effect and as established/adopted by the Company and assures proper safety signs/warning devices are working correctly and/or in place according to safety rules/standards and uses/wears prescribed safety equipment/clothing as required/directed. Cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety, safe work habits, and good housekeeping to include the reporting of any unsafe conditions or acts. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis.
- Performs clerical/administrative duties such as documenting work on all applicable company forms to include logging all preventative maintenance actions on hard-copy form or inputs into software using PC terminal following established procedures and prepares reports as required.
- Performs related work as required and/or directed. Perform all standard and assigned tasks in an effective safe, and efficient manner.
Qualifications
Required Education/Certification/License:
- High school graduate, preferably with technical schooling.
- Must complete all required Department of Transportation Federal/State and OSHA Federal/State courses and programs as a condition of continued employment.
- Must maintain at least minimum passing scores per regulations, for all recurring Federal/State courses or programs.
- Possesses a valid Class 3 driver's license with no restrictions on transmission type.
- Ability to qualify for CDL, type B, license with valid Medical Examiner's Certificate peer 49 CFR 391.41 through 391.49, and security clearances required by various agencies, and to maintain same.
- Must obtain a Class 4 driver's licenses by the end of the first year of employment.
Required Experience:
- Satisfactory completion of probationary period in a "Physical" classification in the Company.
- Must have demonstrated by skills and aptitude test for this trade, and by performance that s/he is dependable and trustworthy.
- Proven ability to understand pertinent codes, regulations, standards, and safety rules/regulations/practices in addition to departmental operating rules and procedures and standards practices and procedures for this trade.
- Requires a high degree of mechanical aptitude and proficiency in the proper use of the tools and equipment of the trade and have a good safety record, ability to use computer.
Working Conditions/Environment/Physical Demands:
- Primarily outdoors in all types of weather and field conditions.
- Exposure to gas fumes varies from low to an occasional high concentration requiring the use of a gas respirator or mask.
- Required to work in confined spaces to include trenches, manholes, pits, and vaults and at high elevations, at times exceeding 100 feet.
- Subject to work on weekends, holidays, and nights to include emergency callouts.
- Good physical condition to perform the requirements of the job.
- No back or serious eye limitation (including color vision and may not use contacts) or restriction on respirator use.
- Must not have acrophobia or claustrophobia or fear of gas or fires.
- Must be medically classified as good risk for heavy labor work; work involves moderate to heavy degree of physical effort.
