Job Description
General Responsibilities:
Skelly and Loy, A Terracon Company, is looking for a Water/Wastewater Field Technician responsible for providing operations and maintenance services for potable water and wastewater treatment systems as part of a circuit rider team serving municipal, commercial, institutional, transportation, and industrial clients. Responsibilities may include treatment system monitoring and adjustments, flow readings, collecting samples, regulatory reporting, field testing, and inspection and maintenance of mechanical equipment/pumps and controls. Tasks will be completed under the supervision of a licensed operator. Treatment systems may range in size and complexity from small-scale systems, pump stations, and medium municipal systems with various treatment technologies.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Complete work tasks under the supervision of a licensed operator.
  • Visit treatment systems on a regularly scheduled frequency (daily, weekly, bi-weekly, etc.) as required. Weekend or holiday visits by the on-call representative are required for some treatment systems.
  • Execute routine operations activities for treatment systems to ensure proper treatment and compliance with the permit requirements.
  • Inspect the mechanical and control components for proper operation.
  • Utilize instrumentation and field kits to monitor typical operations parameters (pH, dissolved oxygen, etc.).
  • Coordinate with the licensed operator to make process adjustments as required for permit compliance.
  • Collect compliance samples and deliver to the laboratory as required.
  • Assist with the completion of regulatory reports as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks as required.
  • Assist team members in completing minor repairs and/or installing new equipment.
  • Respond to emergencies or alarms at treatment systems.
  • Obtain required certifications (OSHA 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations, OSHA confined space entry, etc.) and work towards becoming a licensed water and wastewater operator.


Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 0-2 years' related experience or the equivalent in training and related experience.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

Preferred Skills:
  • Mechanically Inclined - experience with completing routine maintenance tasks and performing repairs on mechanical, electrical, and piping systems.
  • Basic - the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with others; reading comprehension; giving full attention to what others are saying and taking the time to understand the points being made; using learned methods and procedures appropriate for the situation.
  • Technical - performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed; using instrumentation and field kits; monitoring meters, controls or other indicators to make sure the treatment systems are working properly; controlling operations of equipment or systems; performing repairs and installing new equipment; reviewing and understanding sampling results; and completing regulatory reports.
  • Computer - using computers and their applications to enter, manipulate, edit and manage information and online regulatory reporting systems.
