The North Carolina Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation
STEM PathwaysResearch Alliance (
NCLSAMP
SPRA) is a federally funded administrative appointment.The Alliance is led by North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T) and serves eight institutions in the University of North Carolina System. At N.C. A&T, the functional unit comprises one Principal Investigator, two Co-Principal Investigators, one Coordinator, and an Executive Committee. This position reports to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, who also serves as the Principal Investigator of the
NCLSAMP
SPRA award. The
NCLSAMP
SPRA Director will coordinate activities with related units and programs on campus such as the College of Science and Technology, the College of Engineering, the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, and departments within other colleges with
STEM-focused education and research. The
NCLSAMP
SPRA at N.C. A&T State University is a full-time federally funded administrative appointment. The position requires working with the PI and Co-PIs across all institutions in the Alliance. |
Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The
NCLSAMP
SPRA is a senior alliance comprised of eight of the sixteen University of
North Carolina (
UNC) system institutions: Fayetteville State University (
FSU), North
Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T), North Carolina State
University (
NCSU), North Carolina Central University (
NCCU), University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill (
UNC-CH), University of North Carolina at Charlotte (
UNCC),
University of North Carolina at Pembroke (
UNCP), and Winston-Salem State University
(
WSSU). Alliance objectives are to: 1. Empower
URM students to develop and enhance
research -related self-identity, self-efficacy, and science capital; 2. Equip students to
transition to advanced degree programs and/or careers in
STEM; 3. Engage in
innovative research in broadening participation in
STEM by identifying factors impacting
URM students; social cognitions associated with
STEM persistence and avoidance; and
4. Broaden LSAMP's impact through collaboratively sponsored activities and
dissemination of findings through sharing of lessons learned. |
Minimum Requirements |
The Alliance Director must have at least a master's degree in an area related to program
management,
STEM education, social psychology, counseling, social work, human
services or a related
STEM field with parallel experience in student success initiatives. At least three years of experience in higher education with a focus on student engagement such as advising and counseling is required. Project management experience and understanding of human subjects ethics and
IRB processes are required. |

- A doctoral degree is preferred in areas listed above. At least three years of experience in higher education institutions is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse stakeholders, including
- underrepresented minority students in STEM.
- Demonstrated capabilities in program and project management.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated success with scholarly publications and grant writing.
- Proficiency in research methods, data collection and analysis, evaluation and writing
- results for reporting and publication.
- Ability to collaborate effectively and build relationships across campus, and regionally,
- state-wide and nationally
