This position is full-time and contingent on continued receipt of funding. Position is funded through 8/31/2025, and continued funding is anticipated.

Purpose

Provide high-level, day-to-day leadership and oversight of the Center for Health Communication (CHC) portfolio of projects and campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership: Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight for the Center's programs across public health topics and populations. Responsible for overseeing all parts of program implementation and evaluation, as well as regular updates to CHC leadership. Ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled with minimal oversight from Director. Serve as central point of contact for funders across all projects.

  • Program development: Alongside director and administrative team, build project scopes of work and budgets in response to funder request. Assist in pursuing new partnerships and funding opportunities.

  • Cross-functional team collaboration: Serve as team leader directing cross-functional teams toward shared goals and deliverables. Ensure functional collaboration between researchers, faculty affiliates, designers, writers, and other internal stakeholders. Lead the translation of research and data efforts into programmatic and design applications.

  • External partnership: Serve as primary point of contact to all external funders related to deliverables, staffing, budgets, and contracts. Provide excellent client service to partners and funders. Maintain functional and effective communication with all external stakeholders.

  • Health communication expert: Serve as health communication expert for the Center, including a working knowledge of current literature, theories, and models that inform our health communication campaigns. Practice evidence-based health communication and model data-informed practices in program leadership.

  • Supervision + staff development: Supervise and direct workload for 3 to 5 program managers and their direct reports, as well as one creative director and their direct reports. Responsible for new programmatic staff orientation. Alongside the Director, direct staff development such as team skill building, promoting collaboration across projects and teams, and helping institutionalize standardization of processes and products.

  • Support CHC's mission to lead the creation of evidence-based health communication scholarship, education, and practice. Related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in public health, communication, advertising, public relations or related field, or equivalent years of experience

  • 10 or more years' experience with project management and leadership with progressively complex responsibilities

  • 3 or more years supervisory experience with professional staff

  • Excellent written communication skills, including ability to write in multiple styles and for various audiences

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of direct reports and colleagues toward complex programmatic activities and goals

  • Ability to manage multiple workflows simultaneously with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including skillful delegation techniques

  • Prior experience designing and conducting program evaluation activities, including quantitative and qualitative methods

  • Experience successfully translating mix methods research into communication strategies and serving as a strong steward to evidence-based practice throughout the project life cycle

  • Previous work with designers, writers, web developers, or other creative professionals involved in materials creation

  • Strong health equity orientation in approaches to the work

  • Experience working in health communication and public health, and demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Center for Health Communication

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 12 or more years' experience with project management and leadership with progressively complex responsibilities

  • 5 or more years supervisory experience with professional staff

  • Previous high-level leadership role within similar team or organization

  • Subject matter expertise in the areas of public health, health communication, and marketing

Salary Range

$75,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
