Santa Barbara Infrared, Inc. is currently recruiting for the position of Electro-Optics Mechanical Engineer. The Electro-Optics Mechanical Engineer's primary responsibility will be to research, design, develop and test mechanical designs of infrared test equipment. The Electro-Optics Mechanical Engineer will be involved with product design including concepts, design reviews, documentation release and integration. The Electro-Optics Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with other engineering disciples to design mechanisms, precision optical mounts and product packaging. The Electro-Optics Mechanical Engineer will create new designs and perform related design modifications, malfunction and failure investigations and evaluations, technical report preparation and similar ancillary duties.

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from four-year college or university; and five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

$150k-$175k per year

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties assigned as necessary.



  • Design of systems that contain critical optics & motorized stages
  • Perform FEA analysis for thermal, strength and vibration
  • Coordinate design requirements and design concepts with System Engineers
  • Collaborate with other engineering groups as part of design development and design trade-off studies
  • Support designs during procurement, integration and build
  • Participate in design reviews with internal and external customers
  • Generate engineering documentation and release though ECO process
  • Provide peer-check function of other engineer's designs

QUALIFICATIONS



  • Experience in Electro-optical mechanical design including working with ray traces, designs with kinematic mounts and mirror mounts
  • Experience in design for cryogenic and vacuum applications preferred.
  • Fluency with Solidworks design and FEA tools (or equivalent CAD tool)


Other:

The successful candidate must have excellent problem solving skills with a detailed-oriented, organized and methodical approach. Additionally, this position requires the ability to read, interpret and generate design documentation including schematics, test procedures, parts lists, design descriptions and data records.
