Hiring Pay Range: $21.75 - $27.88 hourly
Full Range: $21.75 - $34.00 hourly

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

The purpose of the Communicable Disease Investigator in the HIV Program is to conduct confidential interviews on people diagnosed with HIV and offer them assistance with linkage to HIV care. The HIV CDI will maintain records for data compilation; conduct field investigation with utmost regard to confidentiality and schedule those individuals with a positive test result and those named as a contact, suspect, or associate to a health care provider for diagnosis and treatment.

We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in health promotion, public health, medical technology, health sciences, or a health-related field

  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/orexperienceconducting Health field investigations, community outreach, and/or case managementmay substitute for the education requirement on a year per year basis

We Also Value

  • Experience working as a Communicable Disease Investigator for a local public health department or state health services agency

  • Experience working with various socioeconomic groups performing counseling or health education services

  • Experience working with STIs or epidemiological data related to STIs

  • Experience collaborating with medical facilities, case management agencies or entities affiliated with the Ryan White Program

  • Experience completing patient interviews, assessments, referrals and needs determination

Job Contributions

  • Conducts field and telephone investigations with utmost regard to confidentiality by researching, identifying, locating, and contacting individuals with a confirmed, or potential case of HIV

  • Provides clients with HIV test results and refers clients to a medical provider for HIV diagnosis and treatment

  • Interviews clients who have tested positive for HIV to elicit names and contact information of sexual partners and obtain epidemiological data, such as risk factors and previous disease status

    Connects clients to appropriate agencies for follow-up care and education

  • Locates, notifies, and interviews the sexual partners of clients who have tested positive for an HIV

  • Follows-up with confirmed positive HIV cases to ensure the individual is receiving medical care

  • Creates and maintains case investigation documents, records, and reports

  • Conducts community outreach activities targeting high-risk communities, including registering clients for testing, performing venipuncture, and obtaining specimens

  • Provides HIV prevention education and navigation to clients in a clinal setting

Working Conditions

  • Work occurs in an office and field environment with potential exposure to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, fumes, dust, mists, gases, poor ventilation, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, fumes, , dust, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and other related conditions and situations

  • Ability to exert up to 10 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently, sitting most of the time

  • Valid Arizona driver's license is required upon hire

  • Ability to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency

  • Must successfully complete the following training within 60 days of hire: OSHA/Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure, and HIPPA

  • Within 60 days of hire the employee must complete assigned CDC STI modular training with sufficient passing scores

  • Register and complete certified venipuncture training within 6 months of hire

  • Within one month of hire, all employees are required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
