Job Description

Part of General Dynamics Marine Systems, Bath Iron Works is a full service shipyard specializing in the design, fabrication, and support of complex surface combatants for the U.S. Navy. Our paid summer internship program provides students with meaningful work experiences in their program of study and an increased awareness of our work environment. This position will work with the Communications team and assist with initiatives to include content/graphic design and promotion, social media, and digital reporting/analytics as well as assist in executing major events.

Bath Iron Works is located on the coast of Maine in the city of Bath, 2.5 hours north of Boston, MA and 45 minutes from Maine's largest city, Portland. We are actively recruiting candidates pursuing degrees in Communication, Marketing, Digital Media, Advertising, Public Relations, Graphic Design or a related field.

As part of the BIW team interns will gain valuable experience with both internal and external communication for a world-class shipbuilder. In addition, interns will work collectively on a summer project with their peers to promote collaboration, and encourage comradery. It also provides valuable insight into project management and execution responsibilities. The internship program begins Monday, May 19, 2025 and ends on Friday, August 8, 2025.



Required/Preferred Education/Training

Must currently be enrolled in secondary Academic Program
Must be available to begin the Internship on Monday, May 19, 2025
Must be available for the entire program through August 8, 2025



Required/Preferred Experience

Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and project management skills.
Comfort with word and image processing software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Adobe Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator.
Adept at organizing, meeting deadlines, and conducting research with a positive "can-do" attitude.
Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while also working collaboratively in a team environment.
Ability to effectively participate in meetings communicating the status of assignments.
Experience with website management; knowledge of WordPress, HTML and CSS is a plus.
Familiarity with emerging platforms, digital media, and web/social media management and measurement tools.
