The Chief Technology Officer oversees all information technology in use at Health System and work closely with health system leadership to ensure the information technology (IT) systems meet research and health care system operational needs. The CTO will lead and manage a wide variety of technology components including infrastructure (network, telecom, data center, systems engineering, cloud engineering, disaster recovery), and IT Service Desk technical services.

The CTO is responsible for driving innovation and the implementation of advanced technologies to enhance healthcare delivery, Research, patient outcomes, and optimize user experience with technology. The CTO will possess a deep understanding of, and continuously remain updated about, emerging technologies and integrate them in the Fred Hutch technology stack as applicable.

The CTO collaborates with the CIO, CISO, and senior IT leadership to develop and implement strategic objectives and continuously review and optimize internal processes and technology stack.

This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.

Responsibilities

Strategic IT Planning and Management:

    Co-Develop and implement a strategic IT plan aligned with organizational goals.
  • Oversee new system development to improve healthcare delivery and efficiency.
  • Align technology investments with the strategic needs of the organization.

Technology Implementation and Integration:

  • Lead the selection and implementation of technology systems.
  • Integrate AI, machine learning, and IoT into existing practices to enhance user experience.
  • Ensure interoperability and data coherence across departments.

Data Management and Analytics:

  • Work closely with the office of the Chief Data Officer to meet the technology needs and be a trusted partner.

Cybersecurity and Risk Management:

  • Collaborate with the CISO to develop and implement information security strategies.

Operational Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and motivate a diverse team of IT professionals.
  • Foster a culture of innovation within the IT department.
  • Manage budgets, staffing, and resources effectively.

Innovation and Research:

  • Stay updated on healthcare technologies and trends for competitive advantage.
  • Collaborate with internal and external researchers and technology firms for pilots.
  • Drive research initiatives to test and implement new technologies.

Vendor and Stakeholder Management:

  • Negotiate with vendors for products and services tailored to healthcare needs.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders to ensure project compliance.
  • Communicate technical matters clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Regulatory Compliance and Standards:

  • Ensure all systems and operations comply with legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Monitor legislative and accreditation changes affecting technology.
  • Implement standards for data quality, security, and interoperability.

User-Centric Technology Development:

  • Enhance technologies to improve user experience and interaction.
  • Ensure technology solutions are accessible and user-friendly.

Cloud Strategy Lifecycle:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive cloud strategy that aligns with the organization's business objectives and technological needs.
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable cloud architectures, ensuring reliability, performance, and security for all cloud-based solutions.
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with cloud service providers, ensuring optimal service levels and cost-effectiveness.
  • Establish and enforce strict security protocols for cloud platforms, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Oversee the integration of hybrid and multi-cloud environments, ensuring seamless interoperability and data coherence across platforms.
  • Drive innovation by exploring emerging cloud technologies and implementing best practices for cloud resource optimization and management.
  • Implement robust disaster recovery and business continuity plans to safeguard data and maintain operational integrity in the cloud environment.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS Math, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent educational/job experience.
  • 10+ years of IT infrastructure/engineering experience spanning all facets of IT; strong expertise and understanding of IT systems, storage, networking, application administration for on-prem and cloud, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity.
  • Demonstrated track record of implementing and managing complex technology platforms, systems, and solutions.
  • Must be able to communicate and have good team building skills. Self-motivator and strong leadership qualities, multitasking and problem resolution.
  • Strong verbal, written, visual communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Technology innovation: curiosity and consistently keeping up with technology trends to drive IT forward with strategic thinking.
  • Considerable knowledge of IT operations, infrastructure technology, principles of enterprise architecture, and the development, management of technology standards and road mapping.
  • Possesses an advanced knowledge of IT concepts, practices, methods, principles and a comprehensive understanding of evolving industry trends, practices, and standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MA/MS Math, Computer Science, or Engineering.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $242,112 to $425,755, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
