Summary of Role:

Coordinate and oversee the daily operation of the collection unit including supervising all employees in the collections department. Ensure adequate follow up of delinquent borrowers with the objective of minimizing loan losses.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Routinely establish and maintain policies and procedures designed to control delinquency and limit loan losses

  • Set specific goals for the staff and department and obtain staff "buy-in" towards achievement of these goals

  • Supervise department staff and ensure competent and diligent collection efforts are performed

  • Maintain knowledge of current bankruptcy rules and regulations

  • Attend Court hearings when necessary

  • Keep up-to-date with all CFPB regulations with regard to collection and foreclosure matters via seminars, conferences and webinars

  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, New York State Banking, Bank Secrecy Act, Patriot Act, RESPA, UCC, Mortgage Servicing and all state and federal regulations pertaining to collection activities and credit reporting

  • Experienced with Telephone Collection Practices Act

  • Well Informed with the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the CFPB as they pertain to collections

  • Keep up to date with Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) and make sure they are implemented accordingly

  • Knowledgeable with the regulations surrounding the right of offset and freezing funds with regards SSI, SSD and Pension.

  • Retain state and federal laws with regard to repossessions

  • Ensure all Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae guidelines are met in accordance with specific reports and documentation as well as keeping up to date with their regulations

  • Attend settlement conferences and foreclosure sales when necessary

  • Maintain and publish accurate records and monthly/ daily reports that outline the current asset quality of the credit union and state specific level of delinquency, recoveries, and other statistics that reflect the performance of the department

  • Prepare Recommended Charge off Report, Board Report to be submitted to Vice President for review

  • Prepare delinquency reports regarding indirect loans, mortgage and home equities, consumer loan trends monthly

  • Assist the department Vice President in conducting a yearly audit of various collection vendors

  • Maintain responsibility for Loss Mitigation department invoice approval

  • Review and sign summons and complaints received from collection attorneys

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the lending industry and how lending affects the collectability of member loans

  • Handle escalated calls and member complaints

  • Prepare responses to member complaints received from the Better Business Bureau, Attorney General, Department of Financial Services and the Executive Level or through other outlets within Broadview

  • Develop and remain accountable for adherence to the department's yearly operating budget

  • Lead all department related efficiencies, system upgrades, and process improvements

  • Maintain relationships with high priority vendors and seeking ways to make process efficiencies wherever possible

  • Maintain an active and open working relationship with other departments within the company to assure we are providing the best quality member service possible

  • Maintain and complete staff reviews while overseeing the continuous mentoring and coaching of all department staff

  • Order all supplies for the department

  • Approve payroll and time off requests

  • Assist the Vice President whenever necessary

  • Other duties as needed

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum 5 years related experience in the financial services industry including at least 3 years in collections, bankruptcy, or foreclosure

  • Minimum 1 to 3 years' experience as a manager

  • Paralegal certification strongly preferred

Starting Compensation: $72,182-$88,423 annually, plus a competitive benefits package.
