Purpose/Summary: The Metal Fabricator II position is responsible for planning, fabricating, assembling, and repairing sheet metal products.

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

Under general supervision:

  • Reads and uses calibrated tooling and equipment such as vernier calipers, height gages, pi-tapes, plug gages, micrometers, go/no go gages, thread gages, cylindrical plug and vertical dividing head
  • Assists in developing methods, procedures and operation sequences on work of a special design or characteristic
  • Utilizes and interprets blueprints to determine how and where to fabricate, assemble and install sheet metal products
  • Measures, marks dimensions and lays out material to be installed using tools such as scribes, rulers, calculators and squares
  • Fastens joints and seams in sheet metal with solder, welds, caulk, bolts and metal driver clips, ensuring work is done carefully and bonds will last
  • Checks parts using specified gages or checks parts using furnished fixtures to see that dimensions are being maintained
  • Maintains specific tolerances and accurately performs dimensions
  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area
  • Follows all applicable safety rules and precautions
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned

Minimum Required Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill & Ability:

  • Working knowledge of specific properties of metals used
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and blueprints
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals

Education/Experience:

  • 3 years relevant experience
  • Professional sheet metal fabricator certification preferred
