About the Job

This professional position is responsible for a wide range of fund compliance and administration activities related to the University of Minnesota Foundation funds established to accept and manage donations and the related agreements. This position is responsible for the knowledge and application of state and federal laws, IRS rules and regulations, and the University and Foundation policies and principles.

This position executes the creation of and changes to fund accounts; working with development staff and donors to prepare contracts documenting donor intent and administrative directives while providing excellent customer service. This position also performs other duties as assigned including process optimization, process documentation and fund database enhancements.

Starting salary: $60,000- 70,000 based on experience.

Responsibilities:

Reviews, analyzes and executes documentation summarizing specific gift designations by donors known as Memorandum of Agreements (MOAs) (40%)

  • Creates from a standardized template agreements that meet donor intent, University standards including applicable state and federal laws, IRS rules and regulations, and the University and Foundation policies and principles
  • Identifies concerns with agreements and consults with the Fund Administration Supervisor to recommend revisions to meet donor intent
  • Leads negotiations with the development staff and provides guidance on related talking points

Establishes and maintains fund accounts (30%)

  • Analyzes and processes various requests in coordination with the gift administration and accounting teams as appropriate (fund establishment, fund revision requests, authorized signer maintenance, fund closures, and other related requests)
  • Coordinates fund establishment to facilitate fundraising initiatives in partnership with development staff and the digital marketing team (crowdfunding, online giving pages, giving day)

Staying apprised of policies and compliance aspects of the job and is able to understand, interpret and apply to role (10%)

  • Understands IRS rules and regulations specific to charitable donations
  • Understands University and Foundation policies and principles
  • Understands state and federal laws applicable to our work
  • Understands industry standards

Serves as liaison for development staff, University accounting staff and others within the Finance department (10%)

  • Supports development staff working to secure donations and complete required paperwork and processes
  • Researches and answers questions regarding fund compliance and administration
  • Assists customers with navigating the donor management systems and fund database

Assists with miscellaneous projects (10%)

  • Contributes to process optimization
  • Maintains internal/external documentation
  • Provides policy and compliance training
  • Participates in fund database enhancement projects

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Business or related field; OR a combination of related education and experience in charitable gift administration, grant administration, contract review, compliance, or project coordination to equal four years
  • Strong commitment to customer service
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High level organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships at all organizational levels
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and exercise authority to ensure that deadlines are met
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, analyze alternative solutions, and recognize opportunities for improvement
  • Ability to gather, organize, and present data in a concise and meaningful way
  • Ability to take initiative and function independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to handle information with discretion and confidentiality
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Word
  • Intermediate user of Microsoft Excel

Preferred:

  • Experience in charitable gift administration, grant administration, contract review, compliance, negotiations, or project coordination
  • Experience working in a non-profit or university environment
