Overview Vitro, North America's largest manufacturer of architectural and automotive glass is currently seeking an Automation Production Engineer for their Wareroom Department at its Carlisle, PA location. The primary responsibility of the Process Engineer is to meet the daily operational needs of the wareroom with a focus on eliminating downtime, increasing department efficiency and improving process flow. The Engineer must maintain open communications with the wareroom personnel and other engineers to ensure operational problems are understood and eliminated. Additionally, these open communications will lead to process improvements. Responsibilities This Automation Production Engineering role will work in our Wareroom Department. The Wareroom receives two continuous ribbons of float glass from the Tank Department, which are examined, cut into various sizes and packaged into containers or packs without containers. This glass is temporarily stored prior to shipment. The glass is shipped to various customers including Vitro and independent customers for glazing, automotive applications, mirrors, etc. The Wareroom must balance the given glass quality from the Tank along with Wareroom production capacity, product scheduling and manpower to meet specific quality, packing and shipping requirements specified by customers. Safety, cost and quality must always be of utmost importance. There are no subordinates directly reporting to this position. There are, however, close working relationships required with Main Line Operators, Supervisors and the Shift Supervisors to achieve production and safety objectives. This position reviews and analyzes the wareroom process KPI's and makes corrective actions as necessary. The Process Engineer will keep the Wareroom Manager apprised of serious process control issues as well as significant potential improvements, working independently and multitasking in a fast paced production environment, and responds immediately to production problems while maintaining a long term focus on improvement. Experience with lean manufacturing concepts or operation excellence principals is preferred. The Process Engineer will continually seek ways to improve the process through projects. This is accomplished, in part, by staying abreast of current technology as well as staying in contact with counterparts at other Vitro plants and replicating improvement when appropriate. This position must be able to manage complex projects taking them from concept to reality, initiating and coordinating all project work and effectively utilizing resources outside of the department. This includes Vitro's Central Engineering and Research, outside contractors, vendors and plant maintenance. This position keeps abreast of technological improvements at other facilities and in the marketplace and applies them to Wareroom operations. This position makes frequent inspections of equipment and processes and works with supervisors, peers and operating personnel to develop new methods and equipment that will improve quality and promote a more efficient and stable operation. Incumbent must be able to communicate with all levels of technical and operating personnel. The incumbent must be analytical, perceptive and capable of applying these traits to problem solving situations. Qualifications BS Engineering, Electrical is preferred as well as 3+ years who have a proven track record of implementing new and upgrading existing automation systems to improve processes. Experience with Allen Bradley control systems and Wonderware software would be beneficial.
