Withum's Tax Services Group is made up of a brilliant team of tax specialists that work to ensure tax reporting obligations are met in an accurate and timely manner and minimize or defer the payment of taxes. Their comprehensive understanding of international, US federal, state, and local regulations, counting our affiliation with HLB international, allows them to help develop economical tax strategies anywhere. Their services include Business, Individual, State & Local tax, R&D Tax Credit, as well as International and Private Client services.

As a Tax Principal in our Healthcare niche, based in our New York, NY or Whippany, NJ office, you will be dedicated to serving clients across the healthcare sector, including hospitals, health systems, physician groups, post-acute care organizations and early-stage companies. In this leadership position, you will oversee a team of tax professionals and manage complex, high-value client relationships. Acting as a strategic partner, you will drive market growth, deliver exceptional client service, and foster team development. For the right candidate, this opportunity may also be structured as a Partner role.

How you'll spend your time:



  • Leading and mentoring a team of tax professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence
  • Managing tax compliance and planning for healthcare organizations, including hospitals, health systems, physician groups, integrated delivery systems, and post-acute care organizations
  • Providing strategic oversight and technical review of Form 990 filings and related schedules for tax-exempt healthcare organizations, ensuring compliance and identifying planning opportunities
  • Overseeing tax compliance for for-profit healthcare entities, including partnerships, corporations, and individuals
  • Providing strategic guidance on tax implications of healthcare transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and MSO/PC structures
  • Developing and implementing tax planning strategies to optimize financial performance for healthcare clients
  • Driving business development initiatives by expanding services to existing clients and securing new client relationships
  • Representing the firm at industry conferences and events; maintaining active involvement in organizations such as HFMA, ACG, MGMA, ACHE, NAHC and similar groups
  • Monitoring and interpreting changes in federal and state healthcare tax laws, communicating updates to clients and internal teams
  • Collaborating with audit and advisory teams to address tax considerations in financial reporting and operational planning


The kinds of people we want to talk to have many of the following:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA license, JD, or Master's in Taxation require
  • 15+ years of professional tax experience, with at least 8 years in the healthcare sector
  • Demonstrated expertise in Form 990 preparation and review, UBIT compliance, and for-profit tax returns
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and large client relationships
  • Strong business development track record with the ability to drive revenue growth
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to lead meetings with senior executives and boards of directors
  • Active involvement in healthcare industry trade organizations preferred

The compensation for this position ranges from $190,000 - $325,000 for New York, NY and $200.000 - $320,000 for Whippany, NJ. In addition to the base compensation, Withum offers a competitive benefits package and bonus program (for eligible roles) based on individual and firm performance. Final offer amounts are based on multiple factors such as the specific role, hiring location, as well as the individual's skills, experience and qualifications.
