The Water Safety Officer (WSO) is responsible for assisting in the operation, management, and maintenance of NOVA Parks water park facilities.  Pay Rate: $17.25 per hour
  Major Duties/Specific Task
  
 - Ensures safe and proper operation of the water park complex by conducting routine inspections.
 - Assists with training and evaluating lifeguard personnel.
 - Ensures proper water quality and standards of cleanliness.
 - Monitors chemical controller units and lightning detection systems
 - Enforces safety standards.
 - Performs tasks of a lifeguard when needed.
 - Inspects to ensure proper storage and use of pool chemicals.
 - Assists with routine maintenance/repair of equipment.
 - Assists with public relations by handling visitor inquiries and providing information and assistance to pool managers.
 - Conducts staff meetings and in-service training.
 - Maintains record logs on water quality, inspections, lifeguard testing, employee evaluations, visitation, saves, etc.
 - Reports unsafe conditions to the Park Specialist, Pool Manager, and/or Supervisor on Duty.
 - Ensures safety of all pool patrons in and around the swimming pool.
 - Recognizes and responds effectively to emergencies.
 - Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service training.
 - Informs swimmers and pool patrons of rules and regulations, and enforce as needed.
 - Handles inquiries and provides assistance and information as needed.
 - Administers first aid to injured patrons.
 - Assists with minor housekeeping duties around pool complex including litter pick-up, cleaning restrooms, etc.
 - Assists with pool operation and maintenance including vacuuming, scum line cleaning, removing debris from pool deck, deck furniture cleaning and relocation, etc.
 - Additional duties as assigned by Park Specialist, Pool Manager, Assistant Park Manager, and/or Supervisor on Duty. 
 
 
Minimum Qualifications
  
 - Minimum age of 16 years.
 - Certification in Ellis and Associates International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP), Healthcare Provider Basic Lifesaving Support, and Standard First Aid.
 - Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the staff.
 - Ability to learn the operation of the facility.
 - Demonstrated supervisory and teaching skills.
 - Knowledge of pool mechanical equipment and related materials.
 - Ability to make minor repairs on pool equipment as needed.
 - Ability to gain a working knowledge of NOVA Parks, its history, organization, rules and regulations.
 - Availability to work additional hours during peak operating season.
 - Working knowledge of computers.
 - Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
 - Availability to work a variable work schedule, which may include early and late hours, and weekends and holidays.
 - Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
 - Required to purchase and wear standard WSO uniform.
