Key Position Details:

  • 1.0 FTE (80 hours per two-week period)
  • 8-hour permanent evening shift (start times can be 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM or 1:00 PM)

Job Description:

In the operating room, provides basic indirect patient care in support of a large multispecialty quaternary operating room as delegated. Providing clean, well stocked surgical suite, with case carts and appropriate equipment for the room. Supports the operating room staff in lifting, positioning, transporting patients. Returns used equipment and supplies to appropriate area for reprocessing. Cleans operating room after every procedure.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Supports care of the procedural patient
    • Gathers appropriate supplies, instruments, and equipment for individual cases.
    • Completes case carts and delivers to procedure area.
    • Delivers blood products, lab specimens and medications as assigned.
    • Assists in lifting, positioning and transferring of patient under RN supervision.
    • Retrieves additional requested items during procedures.
    • Retrieves ICU and station beds requested based on patient needs, ensuring oxygen tank has adequate PSI.
    • Delivers and replaces various gas tanks. Including argon, helium, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, oxygen.
    • Stocks linens in warmers and pass through windows
    • Communicates with other departments with supply and equipment needs for Surgical Services (EVS, Linen, Supply Chain, Equipment Services).
    • Replaces chemo hazard, pharmaceutical waste and recycled instrumentation containers.
    • Retrieves crash cart, Lucas and provide emergency case carts during emergency situations.
    • Identifies instruments requiring turn around for same day needs.
    • Verifies each procedure has a case cart. Communicate with Charge Nurse for missing case carts.
    • Transports patients from inpatient units to Pre-Operative Care Center/OSDU
      Collects all necessary items required to come with patient (i.e. medications, chart) and verifying patient labels match arm band.
  • Facilitates operating room turnover
    • Cleans/decontaminates procedure room, furniture and equipment after the case.
      Prepares operating room for following procedure.
    • Replaces/restocks used items.
    • Transports case cart, instruments, linen and trash to appropriate areas for reprocessing or disposal.
    • Adheres to Infection Control policies and procedures.
    • Docks high flow suction device and replace with clean unit for following cases.
  • Handles sterile supplies and instruments according established standards
    • Checks integrity of sterile packs and packaging before shelving or distribution.
    • Verifies instrumentation has all necessary filters, external locks and indicators have changed color during sterilization process prior to placing trays on case carts or sterile storage.
    • Cleans cabinets, equipment and storage shelving in designated area per schedule.
  • Participates in maintaining safe environment
    • Protects patient, self and others from injury during transfers, lifts and transports, by using proper equipment and body mechanics.
    • Follows safety/security procedures for emergency and non-emergency situations.
    • Ensures hallways and sterile storage areas are free of clutter to maintain proper evacuation from operating rooms, gas and electric shut-offs are not obstructed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nursing Assistant, Central Processing/Case Cart or other patient care experience

Licenses/Certifications

  • Must meet at least one of the requirements below:

    * Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association

    * Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross

    * Allina in-house BLS training (within 90 days of hire)

Physical Demands

  • Medium Work:
  • Lifting weight Up to 50 lbs. occasionally, Up to 25 lbs. frequently

Pay Range

Pay Range: $20.47 to $26.78 per hour The pay described reflects the base hourly pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
