Job Description

The Assistant Director Engineering reports directly to the Senior Director of Facility Operations and is responsible for monitoring the performance of equipment critical to the efficient and reliable reactor operations, isotope production and research activities at the Missouri University Research Reactor (MURR). This includes the development and maintenance of an exceptionally qualified and skilled group of engineers that will monitor equipment performance and develop maintenance strategies that will ensure a high level of facility performance. This will include the development and maintenance of a Project Management staff that will identify, implement and coordinate projects that will address the growth and expansion of MURR, obsolescence of facility parts and equipment, identification of spare part inventories and support of research projects including the manufacturing of equipment and tools as requested by the MURR research staff.

Key Duties Performed by this position will include

  • Overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Facility Operations Engineering Organization, establishing the highest levels of performance for personnel and nuclear safety.
  • Establish the engineering strategy and goals that align with the current MURR Strategy including Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Priorities.
  • Establish the necessary programs and processes that ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Establish the proper engineering engagement with established campus and MURR processes to ensure facility reliability and efficient project completion.
  • Develop excellence plans to continually improve department individual contributors' performance and the leadership skills of their department managers.
  • Provide the necessary oversight of established procedures and processes to ensure a high level of equipment performance as well as project development and execution.
  • Interface with Planning Design and Construction (PD&C) group to ensure the timely completion of projects and act as the project owner to ensure the project excellence is maintained.
  • Establish and maintain a highly qualified Engineering staff through the development and maintenance of a top-quality training program covering initial facility training and a recurring training module covering changes and upgrades to the facility.
  • Establish a strong relationship with the Campus facility group to ensure MURR objectives are met within the guidance and requirements of the University of Missouri charter.
  • Establish a high level of formality with project management systems.

In Addition, the individual will

  • Be a strong team player utilizing cross departmental efforts to create a strong environment of collaboration across MURR and the University.
  • Have the budget and financial acumen and skills to ensure projects are completed on time and on schedule.
  • Establish the highest nuclear standards across the engineering organization.
  • Adapt departmental plans and priorities to meet short and long term operational and production objectives and address resource and operational challenges.
  • The ideal candidate will be a persuasive communicator with exceptional organizational and time management skills, that demonstrate customer service, collaboration, confidentiality, integrity and a commitment to university values in their activities
Shift

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with some work outside normal business hours as needed for continued operations.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 7 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Licensure is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years technical supervisory experience.
  • Nuclear and /or radiological facility experience.
  • At least 8 years in a technical field.
  • At least 4 years of experience leading engineering or highly technical skilled workers.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
Grade: GGS 014
