Job Summary

Responsible for supporting the affiliated organizations from a governance and oversight perspective and ensure key matters are being coordinated as needed with other affiliates, the Institute, and the University System of Georgia. Responsibility will include working closely with the leadership teams at the affiliated organizations to coordinate and manage their board meetings. Also responsible for identifying any concerns that may require escalation to the Institute leadership team. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance, and providing feedback, and making pay recommendations.

This position will interact on a regular basis with: Affiliated organizations, senior leadership at the Institute and USG, and external stakeholders, counsel, and consultants

This position typically will advise and counsel: Affiliated organizations, Institute leadership, and USG personnel, Office of Attorney General, and other oversight agencies

This position will supervise: Assigned staff

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Provide advice and counsel to impacted stakeholders on various legal and compliance matters across the Institute and its affiliates

Job Duty 2 -
Review and identify existing, proposed and pending changes to laws and regulations impacting the Institute on various topics

Job Duty 3 -
Review, analyze, and summarize legal documents and agreements as assigned

Job Duty 4 -
Work collaboratively within the Office of the General Counsel on any coordinated projects with overlapping areas of responsibility and perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Job Duty 5 -
Perform discovery and related duties, including document collection and review

Job Duty 6 -
Conduct legal research and draft legal documents to support various projects

Job Duty 7 -
Perform due diligence on various legal matters

Job Duty 8 -
Perform other related job duties assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Juris Doctorate, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

SKILLS
This job requires strong legal research and writing skills, in addition to communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who has a sense of urgency, honesty, and fairness, and who is a good team player who inspires confidence. General knowledge of Georgia law and other requirements relating to state entities and educational institutions; general knowledge of employment and labor law, and litigation procedures. Creativity, patience, calm demeanor under pressure, and willingness to learn new areas of the law. Demonstrated ability to work independently and perform duties with a high level of professionalism, follow-through, flexibility, discretion, judgment, accuracy, diplomacy, and tact. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population, to cultivate an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment, and to treat all people equitably in a culturally competent manner.

Specialized skills preferred:
Member of Bar or ability to be licensed or practice law in Georgia within twelve months of hire

Salary range is dependent on candidates experiences and skills that ranges from $127,000 - $175,000.
