Summary Responsible for repairing and maintaining all levels of Heavy shop vehicles and equipment as well as leading mechanics in the repair and maintenance of all City trucks and Heavy Duty equipment. Also, responsible for working on large scale construction and off road equipment, refuse trucks, haul trucks, small engine equipment and trailers. Salary $23.75 - $30.85 Essential Duties and Responsibilities.
Perform preventative maintenance on City trucks and Heavy Duty equipment including refuse trucks, side loader, rear loader, front load, and roll off trucks as well as haul trucks and trailers. Oversee repairs and maintenance performed by mechanics. Diagnose and repair City trucks and Heavy Duty equipment. Order necessary parts as needed. Maintain a clean, safe and orderly Fleet Shop. Act as supervisor in the absence of the Fleet Services Supervisor. Respond to road calls. Diagnose and repair diesel engines and after treatment Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and twenty-four/seven (24/7) emergency call-out.
Minimum Qualifications
1 year advanced study past the high school level 5 years related experience 3 Truck ASE Certifications Must own basic hand and air tools Must be familiar with Heavy Duty diagnostic software Must have experience with Diesel/After treatment Must have experience with Repair and Diagnostic of Hydraulic systems Ability to lift over 50 lbs. Must be familiar with Mack, Freightliner, Cummins and Allison as well as other brands of heavy duty trucks
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Qualifications Education/ Experience:
5-7 year's experience in heavy equipment and diesel diagnosis and repair Advance training in automotive, diesel and heavy equipment mechanics
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of after treatment repair and diagnostics Comprehensive knowledge of diesel and heavy equipment mechanics Comprehensive knowledge of fleet software and electrical diagnostics Skill in utilizing Cummins software Skill in performing preventative maintenance on trucks and equipment Skill in prioritizing and meeting deadlines Skill in hydraulic system repair Excellent communication skills both written and verbal Ability to professionally coordinate and communicate with other departments to meet deadlines and goals
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Class A or B Texas Driver's License or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire 3 ASE Certifications or documented training/credentials required 3 additional Truck AS certifications within 2 years of hire or Master Certification in automotive or diesel
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
Subject to kneeling, stooping, crawling, extended standing, lying on a creeper, and other strains on the body. Often works in a non-climate controlled environment exposed to noise, petroleum distillates, dust, and dirt. May be exposed to hazards such as chemicals and electricity as well as physical danger associated with automotive repair. Works in shop area or in the field. Exposed to temperature extremes, all weather conditions, noise, fumes from vehicles, dirt, and grease. Stands and lies on hard surfaces or in muddy areas in the field. Subject to lifting and handling of heavy components and parts. Walks, lifts, climbs, pushes, pulls, bends, and stoops. Must work safely to avoid injury while using tools and repairing vehicles.
