Ensures quality testing and accurate test performance through operator training and competency, equipment monitoring, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, quality control review, and proficiency testing. Coordinates all point of care testing according to the manufacturer's procedures, CLIA requirements, and Joint Commission and CAP accreditation standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. EXPERIENCE: 1. Requires 5 or more years of experience performing laboratory testing in a health care environment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1.Licensed by the state of West Virginia as a Point of Care Technician EXPERIENCE: 1. Laboratory quality control review experience is preferred. 2. Laboratory testing personnel training experience preferred. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Provides management of POC testing to include establishing, revising, and monitoring policies and procedures for POC testing program, ensuring that POC testing meets all regulatory requirements for standards, designing organized, well-documented and thorough program for providing assistance to all POC testing sites. Informs personnel of any manufacturer changes. 2. Provides management of POC studies to include: performing validation and correlation studies on all POC testing devices according to established protocols. Ordering, distributing, tracking, and reviewing proficiency testing materials, responding to exception reports within required time frame, reviewing QC and maintenance records for all test sites, provision of education to non-laboratory staff as needed when corrective action is required. 3. Ensures the efficient and accurate processing and reporting of all POC test data. Reviews computer produced POC test information to audit quality. Identifies problematic trends. Documents and follows through with direct department manager. 4. Proficiency testing: Ensures POC testing is ordered according to CAP requirements. Rves, and oversees all testing and testing rotations, submits results, reviews, and follows up on corrective action. 5. Maintains the POC LIS system including entering/monitoring POC analyzers, analyzer configurations, consumables, operators, operator certifications, software upgrades for current POC LIS and applicable analyzer software upgrades. Performs interface validation and upgrade verification and two-year verification for all POC analyzers to include respiratory therapy and oversight at other facility. 6. Processes WV State Laboratory POCT Technician license applications and renewals including application review for accuracy and completion, diplomas and certifications, job descriptions, and lab director signature. 7. Processes check requests for department directors, administration, and accounting. Obtains primary source verification of licenses for POC personnel records, department directors and employees. Communicates with WV Office of Laboratory Services Personnel Licensure, as necessary.
