Description

The Staff Associate I (SAI) will study the Plasmodium falciparum malaria parasite, focusing on drug resistance. The work will include developing hypermutable parasites that will accelerate our ability to define resistance liabilities for compounds in preclinical development. The SAI will also perform cellular screens to identify compounds that target parasite transporters involved in drug resistance.

Functional Knowledge

Requires good working knowledge of he plasmodium falciparum lifecycle and parasite biology. Required to learn and keep up with the relevant malaria research literature.

Problem-Solving

Needs to be able to problem-solve experimental design and obstacles in molecular and genetic studies.

Decision Making/Autonomy

Needs to be able to make decisions interdependently in terms of experimental design and execution.

Technical Expertise

Needs to know how to culture P. falciparum parasites and employ molecular biology to genetically modify their genes. Needs sterile technique and evidence of molecular biology and genetics.

Communication

Needs to communicate ongoing and plans for future studies to PI on a weekly basis through written communication. Expected to have near-daily interactions with PI and other lab members. Expected to submit a written report upon completion of individual projects and assist with manuscripts.
