Manufacturing Engineer 1

Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer 1 position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.

Job Summary:

Utilizes Engineering/Technical/Project Management/Lean Manufacturing experience and skills to serve the Operations team to meet the goals of employee safety and production throughput efficiencies, leading to increased profit and positive customer experience. Proactively collaborates, providing leadership and facilitation with cross-functional teams. Must be flexible with excellent time management skills to work in various roles from engineering technician on the shop floor to design and project management in the office environment.

Primary Responsibilities:


  1. Efficiently serves production managers and supervisors as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and technical liaison of existing manufacturing equipment, software, program/system logic and processes on an as-needed basis.
  2. Follows necessary evaluation of current manufacturing practices - research, develop and propose technological capital upgrades to equipment, tooling and facilities as appropriate for production employee safety, process efficiency and quality repeatability.
  3. Works with EHS Manager, ensures that the manufacturing processes stay in compliance with all government laws and regulations for employee environment, health and safety.
  4. Develops and coordinates appropriate training or training programs for employees.
  5. Reviews production equipment maintenance requirements as necessary to ensure that manufacturer's procedures and instructions are followed to maintain production equipment in optimum condition.
  6. Synchronizes with operational strategy by utilizing lean manufacturing principles, techniques, tools including Theory of Constraints, problem solving, pull systems, 5S, LSS and others to make the best-integrated use of resources leading to increased profits and positive customer experiences.
  7. Reviews and calculates labor, material and other production costs along with review of schedules and future production requirements to assist management in decision making.
  8. Evaluates quality control processes and make recommendations for improvements in quality control for manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
  9. Serves as technical liaison from Operations collaborating with the Product Development team.
  10. Develops and implements strategies for processing and integration of new products into Production.
  11. Provides team leadership and project management for cross-functional project teams.
  12. Communicates and coordinates project objectives, plans and status with Sales, Engineering, Quality, Accounting, Materials Management and Manufacturing.
  13. Provides manufacturing support for the development of sales applications, specifically in the areas of: contract review, design manufacturability, drawing approval, tooling development, material selection and business system set-up.
  14. Documents new and revised processes into detailed procedures, and incorporates into manufacturing routings.
  15. Collaborates with various departments and disciplines to develop and implement company-wide changes related to the manufacturing environment and company goals.
  16. Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the environment is general office work and the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, hear, see, sit and use hands. The environment will be a shop production setting approximately 30 - 50% of the time. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Proper safety guidelines must be adhered to when in the shop production setting. Occasional travel (domestic and international), as needed.

Job Qualifications:

REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline. Two years or more of related post-degree experience. Familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field. Ability to manage

projects from inception through completion.

PREFERRED: A diversified background in a wide variety of manufacturing practices such as forming, punching,

machining, welding, heat treating, painting, assembly and trouble shooting. Two years or more of experience in manufacturing

layout, design and processes. Knowledge of manufacturing business systems. Familiarity with SalesForce and GoogleSuite. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
