One-Year Visiting Assistant Professor in Biology

(
Neurobiology)

The Department of Biology at Kalamazoo College invites applications for a one-year, full-time visiting position, beginning September 2025. We invite applications from biologists with broad training in neurobiology. Teaching responsibilities will include one intermediate and one upper-level lab course in the applicant's area of expertise, as well as two team-taught introductory classes. The successful applicant will be prepared to teach intro-level Cellular & Molecular Biology. The department anticipates that the candidate hired will be invited to apply for an upcoming tenure-track opening in Neurobiology (applications due fall 2025, start date fall 2026).

A completed Ph.D. (by fall 2025) is required. Prior teaching experience and a demonstrated interest in undergraduate teaching is desirable. We especially encourage applications from candidates whose intellectual and pedagogical approaches to the discipline will be effective in attracting and retaining historically underrepresented students. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to working with students, faculty, and staff from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.

Kalamazoo College is a nationally known liberal arts college of approximately 1,450 students. The Biology Department graduates 50+ majors each year, including many who pursue health careers and other graduate-level work in the discipline. The college offers an undergraduate experience that weaves a traditional liberal arts curriculum into domestic and international educational experiences. Kalamazoo College is a member of the Posse Program and home to the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership. The campus is located in a diverse and vibrant city in southwestern Michigan, midway between Chicago and Detroit. Thirty-five miles from Lake Michigan, the area offers many opportunities for outdoor activities.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning February 12, 2025 and continuing until the position is filled. Applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching experience and philosophy, a statement addressing experience working with underrepresented students and pedagogical ways to create an inclusive classroom, a list of three references who may be contacted for recommendations, and undergraduate and graduate transcripts (unofficial is acceptable). Documents are to be submitted electronically in PDF format. Questions may be referred to the chair of the Search Committee, at the email BiologySearch@kzoo.edu.

Kalamazoo College encourages candidates who will contribute to the cultural diversity of the College to apply and to identify themselves if they wish. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
