Onsite - Orlando, FL Moog Space and Defense Group is projecting significant growth driven by high levels of U.S. Department of Defense spending and the thirst for human exploration.The Orlando, Florida Site provides rapid weaponization of non-standard air, land and sea platforms using our platform agnostic Weapon Stores Management System (SMS), weapons launchers, software simulators and test equipment. We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Design team which focuses on new production introduction (NPI), internal research and development (IRAD), legacy product design, production support, as well as tooling and fixturing design for ruggedly packaged electronics and software products for Weapon Stores Management System (SMS), weapons launchers, software simulators and test equipment. This role will report to the Business Unit Manager for the Orlando, Florida Site / Specialized Weapon Systems (SWS) Business Unit (BU) and requires the ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance and access to U.S. export-controlled information. To be considered for this position, here's what you'll need to bring with you:
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • At least 12 years of progressive experience, with 5 years of leading or supporting development projects.
  • Experience interfacing with customers and demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to mentor and coach other engineers. At least 2 years' experience as an engineering manager is preferred.
  • Can understand new technical concepts and products. Utilize these skills to understand risks and take appropriate actions.
  • Ability to gather data and use this data to make decisions to improve the business.
  • Proficiency with CAD/Design software. Experience with Teamcenter/NX/SolidWorks and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge and/or background in special operations, military weapons platform integration, weapons fire control, rugged electronics packaging, aircraft or vehicle systems engineering is a plus. The role oversees the designs of a product set where Mil-Std qualification expertise is a high focus / need.
As an Engineering Manager for our Design and Innovation Team, you will: Design and Functional Leadership
  • Drive staffing planning and coordination of a growing team of design, design/drafting, and development engineers based out of the Orlando, Florida Site for the BU. You will have engineers that will also occasionally be based at other Moog sites.
  • Delegate the timely assignment of direct reports to programs and projects by coaching and mentoring engineers and team leads. Leverage engineering resources out of other businesses to achieve proper staffing levels by coordinating with peer managers on an as needed basis.
  • Lead and mentor team members by providing goals, feedback and recognition and developing talent through career planning and progression.
  • Mentor and on-board employees with design engineering principles. Model best practices, as well as Moog core values, to promote development of world-class Design Engineering talent.
  • Support bid and proposal, sales support, expense, and capital projects as needed. Provide estimates to support scope creation.
  • Lead implementation of new engineering processes, tools, and continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborate with other BU engineering organizations as needed.
  • Collaborate with the cross-functional leadership at the Orlando, Florida Site.
Innovation
  • Be a leader / driving force regarding technological, product, and process innovation for the business.
  • Work closely with the onsite production, engineer leads and business unit director to continue and grow our collaboration with key suppliers in the electronics assembly and machined parts to lower cost and reduce delivery time.
  • Contribute to the overall strategy and planning for technology, research, and product development working collaboratively with the engineering team and our business development organization.
  • Occasionally lead research and development projects as an individual contributor on an opportunity basis.

Salary Range Transparency:

Orlando, FL $135,000.00-$180,000.00 Annually

Salary Range Disclaimer

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
