Building Supervisor

Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108 bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18yrs. Newport News has an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. Newport News Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing, providing intensive residential and acute treatment, for males and females ages 8-21. Newport News Behavioral Health Center uses a cognitive behavioral treatment model that encourages youth to safely explore thoughts and feelings related to the development of positive and desirable behavior within their homes and communities. Our programs have been designed to provide each individual resident quality mental health treatment in a safe therapeutic environment. It is the mission of Newport News Behavioral Health Center to promote recovery from the effects of abuse, addiction and other behavioral issues through specialized treatment interventions provided by a community of caring professionals.

Job Summary:

Provides clinical leadership and supervision to direct care staff. Works in association with the DON, CEO and Program Director to ensure consistency in care provided by the residential care staff and the clinical staff. Implements programming and provides ongoing training and supervision to create and maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu. Coordinates and assigns direct care staff to the units facilitates accurate communication among flex pool staff. Assists with daily time and attendance.

Essential Functions:

  • Directly supervises overnight staff assigned to specific shift and specific rotation.
  • Directly responsible for ensuring that MHT staff are appropriately held accountable and trained in policy, procedures, regulations and expectations.
  • Assists the Program Manager with posting and maintains MHT schedules.
  • Reports in during off duty time to ensure that MHTs are taking care of patient's needs and ensures that the units are in ratio.
  • Ensures that staff attends mandatory in-services to include PPD, CPR, First Aid, HWC and paraprofessional training certifications.
  • Exercises appropriate interventions under the direction of Physician, Director of Residential Services and Nursing staff.
  • Reviews the patient's chart to learn their history and the Physician's Initial Treatment Plan.
  • Fulfills direct care responsibilities and facilitates communication process.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Must possess demonstrated leadership ability, the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and individuals, strong oral and written communication skills. Must possess knowledge of therapeutic relationships as relates to adolescents, therapeutic processes, adolescent growth and development, limit setting and behavior management, crisis management of aggressive behavior and CPR. An individual must be able to perform each Essential Function of the job satisfactorily. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position.

Education/Experience:

Prefer a Bachelor degree in social work or psychology. Minimum of a high school diploma / G.E.D.

A minimum of two years of experience working in a residential facility for children, of which one year must be supervisory. Five years of experience working with children, preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Handle with Care, CPR and First Aid
