Parker Lord's Assembly and Protection Solutions Division is looking for a Senior Scientist within the Structural Adhesives Product Development team in Cary, NC. This team of scientists and technologists is focused on globally commercializing new polymeric products, developing new technologies, and supporting existing Parker Lord products, such as adhesives, sealants, and conductive materials. The primary function of the incumbent is to lead medium term, new product development projects within a Stage Gate Process to support the technical and marketing strategies of the Parker Lord APS division. The role is in a laboratory setting and the incumbent will be working alongside other scientists and engineers in a safe, inclusive, and data driven environment.

This role is located in Cary, NC and will be onsite 5 days a week.

  • Project leader for new innovative product development projects of medium to high complexity.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering, Core Technology, Application Engineering, Manufacturing, Regional, and Business teams to achieve project result.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing regrading various topics to external customers, management, manufacturing facilities, peers, and stakeholders.
  • Actively invents, develops, and implements new product technologies/solutions.
  • Able to evaluate current chemical products and identify areas of improvement regarding safety, quality, and performance or cost.
  • Strategics technical leadership by identifying new solutions, new equipment, and new suppliers for existing challenges.
  • Responsible for insuring achievement of appropriate safety, quality, quantity, cost-effectiveness, reproductivity, and timeliness or results.
  • Leads external customer trails, alongside Application Engineer staff.
  • Uses advanced statistics and design experiments.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with the established Quality Management System.
  • Promotes safety and may lead in the development of new lab safety procedures.
  • Conducts technical training for staff.
  • Requires occasional travel within US, possible international travel.

Job Dimensions and Impacts of this role:

  • Will lead high complexity projects or multiple projects of various complexity. May also lead portions of a major project as a team member. Failure to obtain goals would typical result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources.
  • Applies advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts. Contributes to development of new principles and concepts within Parker Lord. A knowledge resource for their team. Advanced knowledge of products and or industry - detailed customer application, detailed value proposition elements.
  • Advanced design and execution of any set of parameters. Advanced data analysis, report generation. Track record of developing technical solutions to a wide range of highly complex problems. Solutions should generate intellectual property. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organization objectives.
  • Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range foals and objectives. Assignments are often self-initiated. Determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results.
  • Represents organization as a prime technical contact on projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on signification technical matters often requires coordination between organizations. Coaches & Mentors less experienced personnel on technical development.
  • Required Education: A degree in Chemistry, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or similar.
  • Required Work Experience: BS with 5 yrs experience, MS with 4 yrs relevant work experience, PhD with 0 yrs.
  • Strong knowledge of polymers, chemistry, and material science.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to effectively work in diverse, inclusive, cross-function, and global teams.
  • Requires the handling of chemicals and must possess strong safety awareness with adherence to company quality and ethics policies.
  • Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in statistics, statistical software such as JMP/Minitab, Excel, Word SAP
  • Ability to learn and utilizes engineering tools such as DFMEA and Root Cause Analysis in project work.
