Summary
Organizes project teams, assigns individual responsibilities, developing project schedules, and determines resource requirements. Monitors and reports on the status of projects including cost, timing, and staffing. Ensures adherence to internal and external quality standards. Roles include those responsible for general project/program management, in which work requires only general knowledge of the project/business requirements, and no specific technical knowledge. Also includes roles responsible for technical project/program activities, in which the NYPA employee has some foundational knowledge in the specific area to advise on scope changes, and other more technical aspects. Transmission Project Specialist will be responsible for holding clearances, guarantees, maintenance holds and clearances for hot line work.Understands and applies ESP requirements and boundaries. Teaches, updates and verifies CPP-1 for site and contractors. Communicates andplans outages and maintains schedules.
Responsibilities
- Manage the entire project lifecycle under the guidance of leadership. Effectively schedule and oversee multiple medium jobs under tight deadlines.
- Manage day-to-day oversight of projects. Prepare, maintain and update project plans, agendas and systems set-up for projects. This includes determining project steps, activities, the sequence of events, critical success paths, dependencies and the duration of tasks. Establish and track milestones, and delivery dates for projects and process enhancements.
- Identify and acquire appropriate resources needed, ensuring availability necessary for project deliverables. Manages resources within respective departments, other internal departments, outside service providers as well as materials committed to the projects.
- Coordinate work of cross-departmental teams to ensure project objectives are achieved and timelines are met. Follow up with various stakeholders to ensure that all project plans are executed as expected.
- Serves as a central point of contact to routinely relay, facilitate and keep stakeholders apprised of the project's status and respond to questions or inquiries regarding the project. Maintains open communications and relationships with clients as well as the project team, coordinating and conducting meetings as appropriate.
- Conducts risk assessment of strategic, technical, financial, or business factors affecting the project. Monitors project deliverables and progress through the duration of the project plan, managing deviations as appropriate, including project scope. Identifies factors jeopardizing the project and escalates issues as appropriate, recommending solutions to senior project team members.
- Effectively communicate key project findings and recommendations to various audiences (e.g., senior NYPA staff, internal and external stakeholders, etc.) by creating and delivering presentations.
- Interface with key personnel in business units and identify and elevate issues that need resolution to ensure successful execution of executive agenda.
- Develops project specifications and objectives from initiation to delivery for projects of moderate to complex scope.
- Create, collect, and maintain materials including reports, electronic presentations, and other information for projects, special events and other initiatives.

- Demonstrated success in managing medium to large scale projects.
- Strong organizational and time management skills allowing you to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
- Attention to details and possess the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to research issues, prepare evaluations on problems and recommend viable solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in collecting and analyzing data, with skill in optimizing work processes
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills are required to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, guide and lead others and provide direction.
- A moderately high level of analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to handle complex customer and system issues.
- Demonstrated skills in project tracking and management projects.
- Advanced knowledge of software used to manage, analyze and present data preferred.
- Strong business and financial acumen
- Knowledge of and experience with department functions, programs and practices.
- Demonstrated capability to communicate and work effectively at all levels of the organization, inspiring respect and credibility.
- Ability to observe confidentiality.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Certification in a Project Management discipline, such as Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred.
- Minimum 4 years of professional level experience.
- Utility or Energy industry experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Up to 25% travel, primarily within NY State.
- May attend a variety of meetings, conferences, seminars during and outside of normal business hours.
- Ability to visit customer sites and NYPA facilities.
