Job Title: Color Match Technician

Position Title: Stain Lab Color Technician - ACGI

Location: AS ACGI Plant - Marshfield, MO

Function: Manufacturing - ACGI Plant

Grade: CLS_2

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, hourly

Shift: 1st - Monday through Thursday, 5 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. w/ possible overtime on Friday/Saturday.

Sign-on Bonus: $500 total = $250 @ 3 months AND $250 @ 9 months of service

Job Output

Responsible for the day-to-day custom color matching to customer-supplied samples. Also, this position may also mix and modify production stains to prescribed formulas. This position requires tinting and mixing stains and pigmented lacquers. It also includes monitoring all levels of production and sample finishing materials and supplies. This includes collaboration with the Finishing Department team leads, to keep their inventory stocked to avoid any process delays to production.

This position will work within the ACGI Sales/PM/PC Teams matching customer specific colors. The candidate must be able to formulate colors from a wet or dry standard and produce a repeatable formula for use at ACGI. Along with customer matches the candidate will need to follow emerging trends in the wood coatings industry and make samples of potential colors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work closely with the Team Leads and Sample Dept. team, to ensure that sample matching and/or production requirements are fulfilled as scheduled; provide data proactively if delays are anticipated.
  • Must be able to pass a color test, wear a respirator and pass a PFT.
  • Evaluate and match customer specific colors based on pre-established processes for ACGI along with new approaches to accomplish some looks for potential jobs.
  • Provide assistance and direction for Production Batch making on first run batches of colors. This could include troubleshooting any issues in the reproduction of the stain formula. Evaluating any issues and additions and determining if the formula needs to be addressed.
  • Keep up with all necessary files to make sure Sales Team and Plant Production Team have all the information necessary to produce any developed formula.
  • Understand when cost effective solutions are needed and formulate and develop colors accordingly.
  • Participate with Gemini Technical Team discussions to help strengthen the finishing department.
  • Maintain Master Control Samples of all developed finishes.
  • Help with implementation of new processes and line standards.
  • Complies with all safety requirements of the plant, including wearing required breathing PPE.
  • Stay updated on the latest technologies for color matching of stains and paints.
  • Maintain trained status on the new GHSL (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals).
  • Must be able to problem solve and use critical thinking.
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment.
  • Cleans spraying equipment with solvent.
  • Must have excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Properly dispose of unused and outdated chemicals in a timely manner.
  • Log all current test coatings and coordinate all testing with the Production and Plant managers.
  • Write and send Purchase Orders for coatings, chemicals and supplies, as needed
  • Requires exposure to and mixing of chemicals to achieve desired results.
  • Other duties as required by management.

Education and/or Experience

  • 3 - 5 years of experience with Industrial Coatings
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Woodwork coatings experience desired

Prefer: OSHA 10 hour training, CPR/1st Aid/AED training
