Major Position Responsibilities

This position will be located at the new GD-OTS facility located in Mesquite, TX.

SUMMARY: Develops and designs a variety of tools, machinery and equipment, such as shaping and cutting tools, dies, gauges and fixtures, for manufacturing and experimental purposes. Consults with plant and manufacturing personnel to determine tool specifications and requirements. Evaluates tools and machinery to improve quality and performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Designs and develops tools and machinery used to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Reviews product design and build requirements to determine tooling concepts, design options, testing plans, and specifications.
  • Develops designs for fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools, carts, racks, and other items to support production.
  • Utilizes Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to create accurate, complete, and concise design models and documentation to fabricate tools.
  • Estimates costs, resource requirements, and materials required for tools.
  • May manage the sourcing, quoting, or procurement of purchased tools.

Basic Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

Required: Associate's Degree and 5-7 years' experience

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree

Discipline/Major: Engineering Degree required

  • Technical Expertise.
  • 3D Modeling, Design Review.
  • Failure Analysis.
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Manufacturing Process Engineering.
  • Rapid Prototyping.
  • Statistical Process Control.
  • Test Plans.
  • Industry Standards.
  • Production Tools.
  • Tooling.
  • CAD Software.

Critical Professional Related Skills:

  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred for Mesquite:

  • Experience with start ups, such as project planning, and establishing business processes, management systems, and work instructions is desired. This is an exciting opportunity to create the business processes, systems, and culture to stand up a high performing manufacturing operation.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

Travel Requirements:

  • Less than 25% likely
