Do you want to work on complex and pressing challenges-the kind that bring together curious, ambitious, and determined leaders who strive to become better every day? If this sounds like you, you've come to the right place.
Who You'll Work With
You will join our Strategy & Corporate Finance practice in our New York office to work in teams and directly with our clients to help solve some of their most difficult problems. You will also work with a range of experts in the firm, from data scientists and researchers to software and app designers.
Our Strategy & Corporate Finance practice works on engagements across industries, advising clients on top-management level issues including corporate strategy and restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and alliances, business due diligence, value-based management, and strategy in IPO situations. We provide expert advice on financial and strategic issues, helping clients make informed decisions in high-stakes situations. Our broader practice advising CEOs and CFOs shape their strategy agendas. We are dedicated to helping businesses navigate the complex market landscape and achieve their goals.
Your impact within our firm
You will work in teams of typically 3-5 consultants, playing an active role in all aspects of client engagement. This includes gathering and analyzing information, formulating and testing hypotheses, and synthesizing and communicating recommendations to leadership and the client.
As a Specialist within the Strategy and Corporate Finance practice, you will be responsible for bringing valuation principles and strategic thinking to each client situation. This includes developing frameworks to analyze business problems using qualitative and quantitative approaches, working on financial benchmarking and business modeling to provide fact-based rationale for client's strategic choices across organic and inorganic upside opportunities. Key skills will include financial modeling, business analysis and insights, and general valuation knowledge. You will create presentations and analytical materials related to each topic, conduct qualitative analysis to frame, and solve conceptual problems through in-depth research and close collaboration with experts.
During your first few years with the firm, you will consult on multiple client engagements and work with a number of colleagues and clients across a range of industry areas. When you join McKinsey, you are joining a firm that will invest in your professional development. As a Strategy & Corporate Finance Business Analyst, you will:
  • Utilize your expertise to develop insights & recommendations;
  • Own a workstream or a piece of a workstream overseeing junior colleagues;
  • Translate recommendations into pragmatic and realistic actions;
  • Collaborate well with client team members, motivating them to engage and contribute knowledge, capability and practice building;

  • Help the Strategy & Corporate Finance practice build cutting edge knowledge, concepts, frameworks, tools, and ideas and stay abreast of the latest thinking;
  • Support client development e.g. supporting proposals and contributing to white papers;
McKinsey believes in strengths-based development and coaching, and you'll receive mentoring from colleagues. This will include a senior colleague from your office or practice who will help you grow and achieve your career goals. Additionally, you will have a professional development manager who manages your staffing based on your priorities as well as the needs of client service teams.
Your qualifications and skills
  • Undergraduate or master's degree and 4+ years of work experience after completing your undergraduate degree
  • 2+ years of strategy, corporate finance, M&A or due diligence experience in a consulting firm, investment bank, accounting firm or major corporation; experience in a corporate development or strategic finance is preferred
