ABOUT THE JOB

MU Health Care is thrilled to introduce a newly created Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) role as part of an innovative TRIAD leadership model. This model unites the CNO with a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) to advance strategic initiatives and operational excellence. Reporting directly to the System Chief Nursing Executive, the CNO will lead inpatient nursing operations with a key focus on our newly opened Children's Hospital and Birthing Center, Missouri Psychiatric Hospital, and Keene Street Medical Building. This is a unique opportunity to elevate specialty care, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation across these critical areas.

In this role, you will have a profound impact on the pediatric patient experience, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care that supports the diverse needs of children and their families. Key responsibilities include mentoring and developing Directors of Nursing, driving excellence in pediatric-specific metrics, and aligning nursing strategies with MU Health Care's mission and goals. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping a culture of continuous improvement, leveraging Lean methodologies, and achieving outcomes that position our Women and Children's service lines as a leader in the region and beyond.

You are a visionary nurse leader with a proven track record of driving excellence in inpatient pediatrics, women's health, and psychiatric care. Your experience in Magnet-designated hospitals or working towards Magnet accreditation has equipped you with the skills needed to uphold the highest standards of nursing care. Whether you are currently serving as a Director of Nursing, Associate CNO, or Chief Nursing Officer, you bring deep expertise in quality metrics, accountability, and high reliability science. Your ability to build strong teams and cultivate a culture of innovation and engagement sets you apart.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

* Provides visionary leadership to the nursing staff and ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. Assists in development and deployment of nursing policies, standards, and practices across the Health Care System while receiving direction from the Chief Nurse Executive (CNE), MU Health Care.

* Collaborates with the CNE and hospital leadership to develop and execute nursing and patient care strategies in alignment with MUHC's mission and goals. Partners with HR Recruitment to optimize the recruitment of nurses. Partners with HR Education to foster an environment of ongoing learning and skill development.

* Promotes a culture of clinical excellence, evidence-based practice, and continuous improvement in nursing care and patient outcomes. Partners with leadership to continuously improve performance in the areas of patient and employee satisfaction, engagement, and clinical outcomes.

* Champions patient safety initiatives and ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to nursing and patient care services.

* Oversees the allocation of nursing resources, including staffing, budgets, and equipment, to ensure efficient and effective operations.

* Fosters professional growth and development of nursing staff through mentorship, education, and career advancement opportunities. Provides overall coordination for shared governance in nursing including direct, shared management of assigned Directors of Nursing.

* Collaborates with other departments, healthcare providers, and community partners to enhance patient care, support research, and drive community health initiatives.

* Establishes and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess nursing department performance and develop strategies for improvement.

* Leads efforts to continually assess and improve the quality of care provided, including participation in quality improvement projects and initiatives.

* Partners with medical staff and other leaders, involving them with planning and strategy as appropriate.

* Serves on and participates in appropriate administrative committees. Participate in hospital, medical staff, campus and community activities and educational programs.

* Maintains accessibility and visibility to all customers, including patients, physicians, and employees.

* Significant leadership skills and abilities, including the ability to influence program development, quality initiatives, fiscal management, regulatory compliance, and patient and employee satisfaction.

* Ability to work with physicians, educators, staff, and others in a team-oriented approach to achieve results.

* Have executive-level presence, integrity, work ethic, tenacity, and a leadership style that is independent in approach, but strong in teamwork.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

* Master's degree in health administration, business administration, or a related field.

* Ten (10) years of progressively responsible RN experience in healthcare operations at the management level.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience in an academic medical center or large tertiary teaching hospital.
