Research Technologist I

Position Description:

Purpose

Under general supervision provide support for department research through projects, maintenance and communication of data, and execution of laboratory experiments.

Primary Functions

  • Carry out experimental designs for sponsored research projects, and perform routine experiments.
  • Record and compile accurate records and communicate summaries of experimental results.
  • Assist with the evaluation, interpretation and assessment of experimental data and quality control of assays.
  • Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed.
  • Operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research.
  • Oversee daily lab operation in the absence of the supervisor or Principal Investigator.
  • Perform library searches and prepare materials for publications and grants.
  • Retrieve information from library and computerized databases; assist in the preparation of manuscripts and presentations.
  • Assist others in the management of the lab mouse colony including weaning, genotyping, putting together breeders and establishing new transgenic crosses.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.

Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.



Preferred Schedule:




Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00 some weekends

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree

Minimum Required Experience: No experience required

Preferred Education: BS in science related or biomedical engineering field

Preferred Experience: Prefer prior experience in a science laboratory setting
