OverviewMicrosoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world's largest online services. This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ. Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location. This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to (50)%. ResponsibilitiesThis Datacenter Engineering Principal Mechanical Engineer Manager - AMER professional will serve as a AMER East/LATAM Team manager and Subject Matter Expert providing key input to other organizations and internal stakeholders. This position requires a detailed understanding of datacenter HVAC cooling systems, cooling equipment selection, plumbing systems, fire protection systems, fuel systems and Mechanical Building Automation System (BAS) controls. Responsibilities will encompass overseeing a team of 4-5 Mechanical SMEs and in addition, the specification and drawing development detailing all mechanical systems, and overall network topology and communication protocols required. Leading mechanical workgroups with representatives from AE firms and other key stakeholders within Microsoft. The position requires travel to sites, to "Factory Witness Testing", vendor interaction in the design process, as well as final commissioning of the installed systems. Core Responsibilities:Making design decisions related to datacenter projects including new construction, expansions, retrofits and upgrades and standards upgrades. Engaging with and managing external design consultants, running design workshops to ensure they deliver a design to meet the requirements of the Basis of Design (BOD). Collaboration with Global Technical Governance team, Global Strategy team and DC Operations teams to develop datacenter designs from Basis of Design (BOD) to Issue for Construction (IFC) and through the Construction Administration phase of the datacenter until handover. Leading the delivery of mechanical system design for first-of-kind datacenter prototypes.Possess exceptionalcommunication, organization, and leadership skills.Must be able to work with other technical and non-technical groups in a fast-pacedenvironmentand do sowith an even temperament and a results-oriented collaborative manner.Must be a person of integrity,bemethodical and detailed-orientedwith a strongwork ethic.
