About the Job:

Photonics researchers in Keysight Laboratories typically work on one or two applied research projects from our larger research portfolio-which aims to provide breakthrough technologies for Keysight. As a researcher, you will invent, develop, and validate these technologies, and if they prove successful, assist in their commercialization by Keysight's businesses. This position requires a strong theoretical understanding and practical skills in the general area of photonics.

About the Team:

As Keysight's central research organization, Keysight Laboratories is uniquely chartered with inventing and developing electronic and photonic technologies for differentiated next-generation test and measurement solutions. You will be working with a friendly, talented, and multi-disciplinary team of experts spanning fields from mm-waves and photonics to precision mechanical design and software development. To accelerate your innovation, you will have access to our measurement experts, and you will be able to use a wide range of state-of-the-art instrumentation in our well-equipped laboratories.


Responsibilities

As a photonics researcher in Keysight Laboratories, you will apply your expertise to propose, develop, and implement innovative yet practical solutions to technically challenging problems. Your initial work will include theoretical analysis, system or device simulations, and experimental measurements and demonstrations. Photonics researchers are asked to:

  • Identify new photonics technologies early and how they can best be harnessed for Keysight
  • Invent new measurement concepts or implementations to significantly impact Keysight's businesses
  • Implement these innovative concepts in actual hardware and software to prove feasibility
  • Work with Keysight's businesses to transfer the technology into commercial products.

To foster rapid innovation, this position requires close collaboration with other team members. Consequently, this job must be performed from our offices in Santa Clara, California. Relocation is available for this position.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in a relevant field such as Photonics, Optics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to perform innovative photonics research
  • Hands-on experience with both optical and electrical test and measurement instrumentation
  • Experience in photonic simulation, modeling, and design
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team

Desired Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of optical and electrical noise analysis and mitigation
  • Low noise laser or microwave-photonics research experience
  • Photonic packaging experience
  • Familiarity with integrated photonic technologies
  • Lab automation with Python - instrument control and data acquisition
