Position Highlights |
The R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Research Professor. The Assistant Research Professor will be responsible for leading research projects involving development of computational tools for genome analysis, and associated management and analysis of bioinformatic datasets. This career track appointment is not eligible for tenure. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Develop software for analysis of genomics data, and work with software engineers to design, develop, and improve advanced analysis tools. Emphasis on:
- Data and methods associated with transposons
- Data and methods for structural variant detection, and downstream analysis; includes applications to precision medicine
- Data and methods for micriobiome and phage analysis, particularly in the context of soil and human virome.
- Analysis of electronic medical records data.
- Analysis using All of Us Research program data.
- Assist and/or lead writing for grant proposals, progress reports, and manuscript development. This includes responsibility for planning and designing statistical methods and anecdotal analyses, as well as design and preparation of high-quality figures and tables
- Collaborate with software developers in the lab to provide evaluation, motivation, and support related to software projects. Includes project planning:
- Design and conduct research projects.
- Advise and assist in determining methods and analysis for research projects.
- Analyze research results and help determine next steps
- Help train undergraduate and graduate students in the lab on bioinformatics skills, writing, presenting, and other common research-related activities.
- Serve as point of contact for collaborators from within the University and external collaborators from other institutions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of sequence annotation methods, genome analysis, transposable element tools and databases, analysis of graph genome data types and associated structural variant analysis.
- Skills in the Python programming language.
- Ability to lead research projects, write manuscripts, assist in grant development.

Minimum Qualifications |
- PhD with a focus on bioinformatics research.

Preferred Qualifications |
- 5+ years of postdoctoral research experience.
