The Johnson County Department of Corrections operates a 6 month inpatient substance abuse treatment program called the Therapeutic Community. At the Therapeutic Community, we believe in partnering to support behavior change and self-sufficiency while reconnecting justice-involved individuals with their community. The Senior Substance Abuse Counselor plays a pivotal role in supporting the clinical oversight and operations of the program. This position provides supervision, mentorship, and guidance to a team of licensed substance abuse counselors, ensures the delivery of high-quality services, compliance with state and accreditation standards, and supports clients on their path to recovery.

Key Responsibilities:

Champion Positive Change and Empowerment:
• Model and promote the belief that people can change with the right support and opportunities.
• Lead a high-performing team by fostering a culture of respect, dignity, and empowerment.
• Encourage self-reflection and growth among staff and clients, mentoring employees to become change agents.
• Clinical Oversight and Client Support:
• Work with the Program Manager completing assessments for program eligibility.
• Facilitate evidence-based educational and therapeutic sessions, helping clients identify barriers to success.
• Regularly review client progress, emphasizing incremental change and accountability.
• Team Leadership and Development:
• Support staff with training, scheduling, and performance management to align with the county's standards and mission.
• Use a trauma-informed approach to build relationships and promote a positive, collaborative environment.
• Coordinate audits and ensure compliance with state licensure and accreditation standards.
• Promote Community Integration:
• Actively connect justice-involved individuals to prosocial supports and community resources.
• Engage with community stakeholders, including law enforcement and court personnel, to facilitate seamless reintegration.
• Serve as a bridge between clients and resources, fostering partnerships that enhance program effectiveness.
• Innovate for Growth:
• Collaborate on program evaluation and curriculum updates to ensure they meet the evolving needs of the population served.
• Embrace innovation to provide clients with new opportunities for self-sufficiency and long-term success.

Qualifications:

• Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field (Master's preferred).
• Licensure as an Addiction Counselor through Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (KS BSRB).
• Master's level licensure (LMAC, LMFT, LMSW, LPC, etc.) preferred.
• Experience:
• Three (3) years of direct counseling experience required.
• Two (2) years leading, directing, supervising or coordinating the work of others preferred.
• Skills and Attributes:
• Commitment to fostering dignity, respect, and empathy in all interactions.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with a focus on trauma-informed care.
• Ability to inspire and empower individuals on their journey of change while balancing the importance of accountability.

Special Requirements:

• Successful completion of background checks, drug testing, and physical assessments as required.
• Occasional on-call duties to support clinical operations.
