The Associate Vice Provost and Deputy Dean of Students will serve as a visionary leader responsible for the strategic direction, leadership, and comprehensive management of the university's residential learning communities and student support services. This high-impact role is focused on fostering student success, enhancing co-curricular engagement, and advancing institutional priorities through innovative and inclusive practices. The position requires a strategic thinker with exceptional communication skills, a commitment to student well-being, and the ability to proactively address challenges and opportunities within the evolving higher education landscape.

  • Stay informed about emerging issues and trends affecting the student experience and the field of student affairs, and educate the university community and stakeholders accordingly.
  • Proactively identify and implement innovative, entrepreneurial solutions to address areas of improvement and foster growth within the division.
  • Play a key role in divisional planning, resource allocation, and policy formulation, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, including those governing students' rights.

Operational and Financial Oversight

  • Strategically administer and allocate unit budgets in alignment with university and divisional priorities and policies.
  • Oversee operational excellence across units, ensuring resource optimization and compliance with institutional regulations.

Supervision and Staff Development

  • Enhance residential life through comprehensive programming focused on community, connection, belonging, leadership, diversity, and well-being.

Enterprise-wide Programming and Engagement

  • Coordinate the development and delivery of high-impact, large-scale cultural and social programs for the student body.
  • Provide leadership training and advisory support to student organizations, committees, and initiatives, fostering a vibrant campus life.

Student Success and Retention

  • Build and implement a data-informed strategy to monitor individual student progress, addressing key attrition factors such as academic, financial, and social barriers.
  • Collaborate with institutional stakeholders to develop innovative support systems that ensure student success and retention.

Collaboration and Advocacy

  • Maintain open communication channels with the Vice Provost and Chief Student Affairs Officer to align on institutional goals and priorities.
  • Serve as an advocate for student needs and well-being, influencing policies and practices that enhance the overall student experience.

Conduct and Conflict Education

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Student Conduct Services unit, ensuring fair, consistent, and educational approaches to resolving student conduct issues in alignment with institutional policies and values.

  • Develop, implement, and assess policies, procedures, and educational programs that promote accountability, personal growth, and community standards, while addressing issues such as academic integrity, behavioral misconduct, and campus safety.

  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and student leaders, to create a culture of integrity, respect, and ethical decision-making across the university community.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as needed, with the flexibility to adapt to evolving institutional priorities. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
  • This role provides a unique opportunity for a transformational leader to advance the mission of the university by enhancing the student experience, fostering innovation, and shaping a supportive and inclusive campus environment.
