Geosyntec is looking for a Principal Civil Engineer to join our geoenvironmental practice in our Davis, CA office. This position is well-suited for a talented, highly experienced individual who is interested in being a leader and growing our business operations in and around the Birmingham, AL area. This role is expected to sell and develop new clients, while also supporting existing private and public sector projects involving greenfields and brownfields redevelopment, landfills, dams, public utility and energy, geostructural construction support, and other water and waste containment systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec's culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you'd work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities. Essential skills and responsibilities include:

    Developing a business plan and pursing/selling new clients for Geosyntec within the Birmingham and Alabama area to support Geosyntec's growth;
  • Developing and/or reviewing technical drawings, specifications, engineering documents, and analyses for: civil design; landfill design, site development and grading; site layout, stormwater management; and erosion and sediment controls;
  • Completion or review of civil and stormwater management design packages;
  • Preparing permit applications, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications;
  • Providing construction engineering support to large civil-design projects;
  • Completing construction quality assurance tasks for large civil-design projects;
  • Developing and maintaining strong collaborative internal (i.e., within Geosyntec) and external (i.e., clients and subcontractors) relationships;
  • Understanding of local, state and federal regulations related to CCR, stormwater, and solid waste;
  • Managing multiple projects within the scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensuring quality standards on project deliverables;
  • Mentoring and developing early to mid career engineers; and
  • Occasional fieldwork associated with design and construction services.


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or geotechnical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer or ability to within first 6 months of employment in the U.S. (required)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 10 years (15+ preferred) of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Managing complex interdisciplinary projects for private and public sector clients. (preferred)
  • Effective business development and client management skills. (required)
  • Technical leadership for civil design, landfill design, and site layout. (required)
  • Task and project management. (required)
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills. (required)
  • Relevant engineering software. (e.g., AutoCAD Civil3D, SWMM, HydroCAD, and ArcGIS. (preferred)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required based on Client)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $133,050/year / Maximum Salary: $186,275/year (Davis, CA)
