Essential Job Duties |
The Research Accounting Technician supports post-award financial management for the College of Sciences, ensuring compliance with university, federal, and agency guidelines. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Research Administration, this role works closely with faculty to manage sponsored research transactions and grant-related accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Initiate and reconcile financial transactions, including no-cost extensions, re-budgets, and salary adjustments.
- Provide grant management support, including budget justifications and compliance navigation.
- Monitor expenditures and ensure adherence to funding regulations.
- Collaborate with faculty to facilitate efficient research administration.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Experience in financial management, budgeting, and research administration (pre- and post-award).
- Knowledge of university spending guidelines.
- Experience managing NIH and NSF-sponsored projects.
- Proficiency with Smartsheets for project management.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Knowledge of governmental budgeting practices, accounting principles, and grant management procedures.
- Experience managing and reconciling grant accounts, including interpreting and applying funding agency regulations.
- Proficiency in grant management systems such as PeopleSoft Financial and HR, WOLF Reports, Labor Reports, Payroll Distribution Reports, PINS, RADAR, and ePAR.
- Familiarity with federal compliance standards, including Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), OMB Circulars (A-21, A-110, A-133), Uniform Guidance, and Generally Accepted Privacy Principles (GAPP).
- Understanding of university spending guidelines and cost principles.
- Strong Excel skills for data analysis, reporting, and maintaining accurate balances.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Apps for administrative and financial tasks.
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification (preferred).
