Sr Database Administrator (DBA) requires a strong technical background in SQL Server, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, and AWS cloud technologies. This role will play a pivotal part in managing and optimizing our database environments, with a focus on ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance for mission-critical applications in hybrid cloud environments. Experience building and maintaining a complex set of systems with proven ability to understand business use cases and provide technical expertise on the use of technology replication and archival strategy, high availability, and DR solution options.

Responsibilities:

  • The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge, experience in designing, managing, and maintaining high-availability systems and cloud database services (AWS RDS, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch).
  • Experience in clustering technologies for database management systems that include fault tolerant solutions and an in deep knowledge and understanding of RDMS,NO SQL ,as well as the operating systems that the database run on (Linux, Microsoft window and AWS EC2).
  • Manage and monitor AWS cloud database services (RDS, PostgreSQL, etc.) and on AWS EC2.
  • Support database operations, including backups, disaster recovery, and failover.
  • Design and manage database environments in AWS, leveraging services like RDS, EC2, and S3.
  • Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and services like S3, Lambda, or Glue, AWS networking.
  • Knowledge of data modeling, warehousing, and schema design principles.
  • Proven experience with AWS cloud databases, including RDS and on EC2.Hands-on knowledge of high-availability solutions (Always On, MongoDB, PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch etc.)
  • Familiarity with scripting languages and automation tools is a plus.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and optimization of data warehouses.
  • Perform schema management, data modeling, and query performance tuning.
  • Design and implement end-to-end data pipelines, including data ingestion, transformation, and delivery.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required or 12 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree

Work Experience:

  • 9+ years of related IT work experience.

Preferred Certifications: Certification in any cloud Hyperscale's and RDBMS fields.

Platform Operations and Support:

  • Provide operational support for data platforms, ensuring uptime and adherence to SLAs.
  • Monitor system performance, logs, and metrics to proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and cloud engineering teams for infrastructure maintenance and patching.

Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Collaboration and Documentation:

  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights.
  • Document processes, pipelines, and platform configurations for knowledge sharing and onboarding
  • Maintain clear documentation for database configurations and procedures.
  • Ensure databases comply with security and data governance standards.

Horizon BCBSNJ employees must live in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut or Delaware

Salary Range:

$108,000 - $147,420

This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. This range has been created in good faith based on information known to Horizon at the time of posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case.
